Not sure why these people are selling them........not a compatible board is sold along with the CPU~~~ I wouldnt know where to get a compatible board at the moment even if I bid and won that CPU!!

But interesting that they have samples out!!!

  1. I've heard that there are a few boards available in Asia, but I don't have the name of a source. Perhaps an e-mail to AMD's Taiwan office could point you to a supplier.

I think there is a board design kit available from AMD if you have the correct account status.
  2. Supposedly Socket F is delayed even further now.

As it stands, however, the Rev F chips will be more delayed than previously expected. AMD already pushed back its official "launch" announcement from July to August. Now we hear that HP doesn't expect to slot Rev F chips into boxes until "late September or the first week of October."

Looks like a paper launch in August with availability in September/October. The reason for the delay is probably that AMD is trying to find the best way to compete with Woodcrest. They were originally aiming for the top launch speed to be 2.8GHz, but now they're probably aiming for at least 3GHz. I'm still of the opinion that the high latency Registered DDR2 667 with 5-5-5 timings that are available right now hinders performance like we saw in AM2. This means more memory controller tweaks are needed.

AMDs strategy now seems to be to just get the Socket F platform on the market for now and let Woodcrest have its day and then have the large fanfare with quad cores next year. That way at least next year the channels all have experience with Socket F and they'll have an installed base of Socket F systems to upgrade.
  3. Last time they delay board makers claimed that they were ready in July and pointed the finger at CPUs. That's why I'm thinking AMD is probably stalling for time to get additional performance rather than a socket delay.
