Ok folks, it looks like e6700 is very very hard to get.
But Here says e6400 is in stock. I don't know if they are honest e-tailer but how much better will e6700 be than e6400? If not significant, then I'll contemplate and buy e6400 because i'm tired of waiting. Shopblt.com just updated their ETA to Aug 16th. I'm computer-less right now and have to beg my roomie to use his.

The Link's a Fake No Such thing as a 4Mb cache E6400. But if you like go ahead with the E6400W a 2 mb cache it'll perform as good as the best Pentium D ever or atleast the Athlonx2 4600+

maybe the 4mb part on that site is just a typo. all the same if you have enough cash for the E6700 you should preorder or wait. i myself am hoping to get a E6600 with a new mobo. i am praying that my current mobo asus p5n32 sli non-se will somehow be bios compatible so that i wont have to buy another mobo and i could afford an E6700. i dont know why anyone would want either of the E6300 or E6400 because they are the runts of the c2d cpu's, bad investments i think.

Hmm .... I don't know why you said this ... but I'm guessing that that tad bit of arrogance comes from the fact that you are either ..... friggin rich (and I bet you would respond to "this" particular point by lying and say something like "I am not rich. Who says I'm rich. I just happened to have in my pocket a bundle of cash which roughly equates to the price of a cpu in the class of E6600 or E6700 which just "happened" to be WAY out of reach by at least half of the world's population. Things like this really do happen you know." ) ............. OR ........ (you fill this blank).

E6300 and E6400 in no way are runts.

They are the runts of the litter as the lowest CPUs.

Mind you, if your lineage is the result of a brief, fortunate and highly enjoyable yet not widely publicised partnership between Superman and Wonderwoman, then being the runt isn't so bad :p

Certainly better than trying to produce as many kids as possible, and hoping 4x4 stay around to look after you later....

(have I stretched this too far? :p )

sorry but i would wait for the E6700 if you can afford it. just get everything else chosen and ordered because sometimes not all of the hardware will ship to you at the same time. i know you must be chomping at the bit and ready for your new pc. i'm not a smarty pants and sorry if i seem arrogant for suggesting to think ahead because in 6 months theres probably going to be something that will make the E6300-E6400 look like the Pentium D 9XX compared to the conroes.

Ye I guess i should. It's hard to get either e6600 or e6700 so.......I'm wondering what do I get with e6700 with extra 200+ bucks over e6600? Is it just the speed advantage or is there something else I get with e6700?

I would say, if you have the $$$, buy the E6600, but I have the E6400 with the Asus P5W DH deluxe mobo and I'm very, very happy with it's over performance thus far on the XP pro 64x platform. I have solved issues of heat with conroe, I have water cooled the E6400, stable as I have ever had. Completely satisfied. Good luck on your selection.

I got the money to get the e6700 but i was just wondering if there's 200 dollar difference between this one and the one right below, there's gotta be something extra I get with 200 bucks. I don't know what to get tho. I want the best I can get with my money.

this link shows some comparison between the E6600 and the E6700 http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets/showdoc.aspx?i=2795&p=18
as far as oc "The 2.4GHz E6600 turned out to be quite an overclocker in our tests. Even though it was hard-locked at a 9 multiplier it reached an amazing 4GHz in the overclocking tests. That represents a 67% overclock."
what hardware have you selected so far? mobo, memory, psu...
*i hate putting links to other sites that have a forum but this link is to a guide.

No it doesn't come with a new car, or anything like that, other that +2mb of cache and a higher clock speed than the E6400. If that's worth $200 more dollars then get it, if not, go with the more economical processor, with 200 left to spend. I had no problem saving money with the E6400.

There are some apps that would benefit from the extra 2MB cache like video/multimedia apps. It would make quite a difference. But , if you don't belong to that group , then save some "REAL" money by going with the low end model and overclock them "a little" to the speeds of the model just above it. This should be VERY safe ... and you would save quite a bit of the old precious $$$$.
