Welp.. i've put together this scam from work and i'll be basically getting a 3700 san diego for free.. I need some opinions on a 939 board around 100 for oc'in.

I have 1 gb of mushkin pc3500 lvl 2 memory.. its great memory, but i know its not much to work with.. and a 420W PSU Antec.. i want to know what you guys think.. I'm also purchasing a 7900GT.. i'd be happy if i find out i can only run it stock.. I have no plans on using SLI , and really non for purchasing new memory because of AM2 and of course my next upgrade will be quad core.

after i sell off two older comps i should have about 450 dollars to work with .. and the 7900GT is a pretty much must have ^^.. so yea.. help me out.

Newegg has this DFI Lanparty on sale right now. Great deal on a solid non-SLI OC'er. Even at the normal Newegg price, it's very competitive.

yea i was hoping someone would suggest that.. thats the one i've been eyeballing.. i'm just worried about my PSU and i know my memory wont let me OC : / ... maybe but 100mhz

I do however think i'm going to say eff it and turn this into a project and get the g.skillz 1 gig kit ddr600..the only problem is.. i'm gonna want Water Cooling and a new case then.. and this free CPU will turn me into a cash spending maniac.

I'm the wrong person to ask about Antec power supplies, let alone OC'ing with them. I've had two Antec's die on me and one took out my mobo, CPU and GPU. That experience moved me into the Overkill PS Club. Look at it this way: the PS is typically one of the lesser to middle priced components, but it provides power to all of the expensive stuff. So I don't scrimp there anymore. You can find decently priced units from FSP, OCZ and mushkin that will handle an OC load just fine.

WRT your memory, I have not used that particular mushkin stick. I do know that their more expensive DDR will OC like a champ. You may be able to sell yours for a few bucks then snag a better mushkin or OCZ pair that will give you some headroom. I've had great luck with DDR500 from both. Don't worry about water cooling just yet. A good CPU HSF will take you a ways towards nirvanna. Good luck!

! You know the secrets? !?! WUSY

I've been trying to find people who know this.. but the San Diego.. is it worth the 400 mhz.. or tighter ram timings for things like games?

This memory has served my little barton 2500 so well .. i don't want to get rid of them.. i thought the only way for a descent OC was for crazy arse high ddr500 or > ram.. i've been out of the game...

obviously no matter what.. i'll be at least pushing my memory to see what i can do before purchasing 150 dollar memory..

The performance/$ of A64 S939 is still going strong.

Very true. That's a point lost on many during these hectic Conroe blitz days. I'd love to see real world stats a year from now of actual CPU usage for the average Conroe owner. I'd bet a sizeable wad of cash that half of the owners will run less than 40% while seated at the keyboard and many under 25%.

But I still want one even though I love my Opty.

yea for sure man.. i have two junk pc's i'm trying to sell .. and a free 3700+ .. so i'm basically getting a new computer for no cash out of my pocket.. as long as i can get this stupid somewhat funny windows to work ^^..

i have a 2.4 pentium 478.. with random crap i'm selling to a kid for 250.. and i'm hooking up a co-worker if he excepts with a 420W supply, 2.8ghz pentium B , 1gb Rdram, and a 80 gb Seagate HD... for 250..

so if this works out.. i'll be one stoked mofo.. :D.. just gotta get this kids xp cd to work.. and make the other guy buy a case.. and a xp cd.

for 380 bucks you got yourself a nice stable core good for oc'in.. i mean solid performance that you can SEE!

my2500xp barton has been stripped down because my abit nf7 died on me.. :( .. my Fortron PSU blew up and took it out.. leaving me with a MSI board that wont even allow me to get up to 2.2ghz T.T

well after i get these two comps out to their rightfull owners i'll have a 2500+, MSI crap, and a 9800 pro to get rid of.. don't really know anyone to push that stuff off onto. I'd be willing to let that stuff go really cheap!

I also have two Technics MK2 turntables and a denon x200 mixer to get rid of if you guys know anyone who wants to DJ... or scratch.. that stuff is high dollar though.. so yea. I mean the stuff is brand new.. like 20 hours of use tops with Shure m44g carts on 'em.. and a crate full of battle records including a nice ass set of Technics headphones about 140 dollars.
I never used eBay so it looks like i'll be seeing what i can do with it soon..

As for my crippled OS in a super hero outfit, i just need boot disks because someone forgot to make it bootable >< .. and i can't figure out how to get it to run from Damn Small Linux because i'm a newb.

Now i'm really excited to get all these little scams to work because i'm a PC junky at heart and i've had the building itch after two months with my barton stopping at 2.7 ghz!

I would attempt crazy oc on that new pentium, but after using AMD64 cpu's and 3.7ghz pentiums for the last year and a half.. i can really SEE the difference.. i don't know what it is... but IMHO the AMD64 systems really show solid and crisp graphics.. i know it sounds nutty.. and yes both GPU's were the same.. I think i'm just biased now.. although i want to see what this p2.4 b will do ^^.. of course all that will change if i get one of 'em floated my way for free....

I've sold literally thousands of items there and have done really well. Here's a few tips to help you get started and reduce surprises, etc.

-Get a paypal account if you don't already have one. You'll get many more bids.

-Take GREAT photos, crop them if need be, tweak brightness and contrast, etc.

-Make sure you list the item in the correct category and describe it carefully with model numbers, etc. In particular, clearly describe any defects - cosmetic or functional - good photos help alot here. I turned a $1500 profit by finding a rare item that was improperly listed. I paid $23 and sold it for $1500 on my first try! We used the profit to help fund a new TV.

-Clearly define your shipping terms and be sure to cover your butt. On heavier stuff whose shipping cost varies dramatically with distance, you can set up the shipping calculator or state that the buyer pays the exact S&H cost. I do that and just charge what it cost me and have never had an unhappy buyer.

-Think carefully about how much you need for an item. I tend to go with a very low starting bid even for expensive items - it generates interest and gets bidding wars going early on. If you are really worried about giving something away, just list it at a low starting price and use a reserve.

-You might want to buy a few things first, pay quickly for them and get some positive feedback before selling. I personally look more at negative feedback rather than worrying about a big net number. You can also guarantee satisfaction on your first (or all) auctions and that helps people trust.
