I recently bought a 6600 GT TDH AGP from Leadtek
i installed it no problems and updated drivers to latest
installed directX 9.0c
played a game and 20 minutes into it it froze, I thought it was normal so i restarted and tried again and 20 minutes into the game it froze again!
i checked the temps they were all normal 36-39C when idle and 65-69C when loaded so it wasnt overheating
i restarted it and went up to get some food and when i came down i found out the computer had frozen on the 3D text screensaver!!!:@
i went to every forum on Earth and tried most of the solutions like switching off Fast Write, reinstalling drivers, connecting the card to it's own power line, setting AGP aperture size to 256mB, Enabling PCI Delay transaction.
All that didn't do sh1t!!! My games still freeze randomly sometimes 20 minutes sometimes 5 sometimes it doesnt even!!!! it's pissing me off!!
When u say you checked your temps I assume u mean the video card? I have a 6600GT AGP OC'd to 580/1200 and my idle temps are 53-55c. Make sure that its seaeted right, and that the fan is spinning. Also does yours have the 4pin power connectoyr on the back? If so make sure thats in too.
yes everything is plugged in and the card is seated properly and i set the fan to constant 100% fan speed. It hasnt been overclocked
oh and my computer specs are
AMD64 3000+
1 gig RAM
Asus K8V-X
Audigy 2 in bottom PCI slot
Leadtek 6600 GT TDH AGP with Dual monitor
200GB IDE HDD
500W PSU with detachable power lines (3D card is on it's own dedicated line)
I hope it's not a faulty chipset
oh and it doesnt freeze when on the desktop, it hasnt frozen on me in 3D Mark 2005 either, although it's been stressed beyond belief haha (down to 1 FPS)
Well that a bugger maby it's not your video card that's the problem maby it's the RAM i had two sticks on memory and i got alot of sistem freezups and sudden restarts games wouldent start keep geting errors,BUT when i pulled out a RAm stick all of my problems where gone for good the memory module was cleaned ...... it was the source of my problems
Those load temps sound a little high. I have the same card in another comp and I was playing around with some lesser heatsinks after I took it off water cooling because I couldnt find the original one - around 70C I was getting lockups with the other heatsinks at stocks. I suggest removing the heatsink - cleaning the gpu off with some rubbing alcohol and putting a thin coat of new thermal paste on it (pref AS5) If that doesn't work. Try it in another system if possible or RMA the card if still under warranty. If it isnt heat it sounds mostly like hardware. Also try the latest drivers and also check mvktech.net for new firmware.
it's all good i found the problem to be a compatibility issue with my Audigy 2
it was also in teh second bottom PCI slot not the bottom one (my bad, sorry!!)
i took out the Audigy and put it in the bottom slot and now there's no freezes although there's the occasional slight popping when there's heavy action which is annoying sometimes. framerates also seem to be negligibly lower when there's ALOT of samples at the same time.
so it was all Creative's fault that all this happened...hmm let's hope they fix these types of problems in the next few revisions or driver updates
