Hi All,

Just spec'ed my new system and wondered what you all thought...

Intel Core 2 DUO E6600 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.40GHz
Corsair 2GB DDR2 XMS2-6400C5 TwinX (2x1GB)
BFG GeForce 7950 GX2 1024MB GDDR3
Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Music
Antec P180 Advanced Super Midi Tower Case - No PSU (Silver)
Seasonic S12 600W Silent ATX2.2 Power Supply
Western Digital Caviar SE16 320GB 3200KS SATA-II 16MB Cache x2
Samsung SH-W163 DVD±RW Serial ATA Dual Layer ReWriter
Scythe Miné Quiet Heatpipe CPU Cooler
Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound

As you may have noticed I have not spec'd a motherboard, I have been hearing stories about Unflashed BIOS' not working with the Conroe or chipsets not being compatiable with the 7950 GX2.

Can anyone suggest for me a motherboard that'll work nicely (with the least amount of problems)?

...and feel free to comment on the spec. 8)

Looks smokin'. I'm not sure on which motherboard, but I know the 965 chipset is one of the better ones. nVidia has their chipsets out soon, same with ATI.

I would also get some Segate 320GB PRD (Perpendicular blah) drives as they are generally faster.

I would carefully read the compatability list of the SATA DVD drive, I believe it has some issues with some motherboards.

Suggested Changes:

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3 This one will support Conroe out of the box.

CPU Cooler: Drop it. This chip won't need an aftermarket cooler unless you're going to be overclocking by more than 800Mhz.

Video Card: With the DX 10 cards just around the corner, the 7950GX2 is a complete waste of money. Never spend over $400 on a part you're going to use for 6 months at most. Get the eVGA Geforce 7600GT instead.

PSU: Antec Truepower 430W <--- This is all you're going to need if you take my suggestions.

Hard Drives: Like ikjadoon said, the Seagate 320GB 7200.10 drives are better performers than the WD's are. Switch to the Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 320GB SATA2
