Good to be the boss - or is it?

I'm susprised at how paltry the rewards are for finishing all of the quests
for a given faction.

The Imperial Legion? Yay, you get to have the Lords Armor and the
Chrysamere sword back - which you had to find yourself and give to the guy
in the first place. You could have saved the trouble just by finding them
and not giving them to him. Not to mention there are better armors and
swords out there, and many even easier to find. Perhaps the most
disappointing part about this was that there are still some members of the
Legion who will refuse to talk to me if I'm out of uniform. Damnit, I'm the
highest ranking officer in the Legion. If I come in wearing nothing but a
thong, tutu and gimp mask, you're still required to talk to me. That it, as
your illustrious leader, I hereby rescind the uniform rule. Hmm. Oh well,
it was worth a shot...

The Mage's Guild? You get, um, nothing. I'd think at the very least they'd
make the Guild Guides free, not that they're that expensive to begin with.
But you don't get even that. I suppose if you duel Trebonius to get your
promotion you can get those cool items he's got, but then I could pretty
much kill him at any time if I really wanted those, and since it's possible
to become Arch-Mage without killing him, it's not really a guaranteed
reward.

The Imperial Cult? Okay, you get a few new quests from the Oracle to go
find some items - but not one you couldn't find on your own without even
being a member of the cult. How about this idea? Make Divine Intervention
give you a choice between which shrine you go to, rather than picking the
closest one automatically? That would actually be worth the effort.

The Temple? You get the Cuirass of the Savior's Hide, which I guess is
cool, since you can't get that any other way. However, it's not the
greatest armor in the world, and the Shield spell it casts I find to be
highly annoying. A better reward would be to allow Almsivi Intervention to
give you a choice, as I mentionned above. Or I should be able to get the
Ordinators to do stuff for me, that would be cool.

Those are the only ones I've completed, though I'm one mission away from
being the Fighter's Guild boss. (Can't decide between killing all the
Thieves Guild bosses or killing the Fighter's Guild bosses. Not sure what
the consequences will be...) I know you get a Manor for completing any of
the Great Houses' missions, though I've heard that's not all it's cracked up
to be, but even so, that sounds like a worthwhile reward compared to the
useless stuff all these other factions give you.

Also, being the boss, shouldn't I be able to, like, you know, give orders
and stuff? I should be able to command some newbie recruits to go out and
find me stuff, or hire a couple out as bodyguards sometimes. But no, pretty
much the only thing you get most of the time is high disposition of the
faction members, which of course results in lower disposition for all the
factions that hate them.

"Give your orders" mod, over at thelys.org

I love being some Imperial ICanOrderYouAround Knight (don't need to be
the boss, some higher rank is good enough), then get a bunch of
Legionnaires and go visit some bandits.

Works well together with "Morrowind Comes Alive" which adds the folks
you can recruit.

Otherwise, concerning unmodded Morrowind the rewards are quite
irrelevant. Fortunately, there are good mods to fix this, making it
actually worthwhile to gain a higher rank in a guild.

Your 'real' reward in Morrowind is saving the world. And since the
next time some petty idiot decided to "change" a bunch of
people into his/her devoted "followers", that bunch of people
could include you, your offspring and your friends.....saving the
world does have some prospect of personal gain (or lack of
personal loss).

Actually, if you do things right, Trebonius will give you
all of his items. This option will appear in his dialog only
if (a) you are head of the mages guild (b) you did not duel
him (c) you have completed the Main Quest. I think you
click on "duties" but I'm not sure because it has been
awhile since I did this.

Not only that, when you are head of the Temple, they
*still* won't let you in that moon. feh!

IIRC you need to do all his quests first.

Can you actually get up there? In my current game I'm not working for the temple, but
I wonder if I could levitate up there every time I go to Vivec.

Well, I'm good on (a) and (b). I've been holding off on (c) for some
reason. I've already gotten Wraithguard, Sunder, and Keening, so I suppose
I could go and finish it all now, but then everything else would be a kind
of denoument.

Oddly enough, in the Quest section of my journal, it still says I'm supposed
to give Trebonius the note from Skink, and I've still got the note, but I am
now head of the Guild, so I must have done something right. Just weird that
the quest entry is still there, even though I've supposedly "finished" the
quest. I've also got an item called "Skink's Amulet", which looks just like
any old extravagant amulet, and has no special powers or anything on it. I
wonder what I'm supposed to do with that?

Yeah, do the main quests and you will eventually have to go there. (You can
levitate there any time, of course, but I'm not sure if you can pick the
locks. They're level 80, so it shouldn't be too difficult with some decent
Security or a Lock-Splitter scroll, but this may be one of those cases where
you need the key. Not sure. You will get it on the main quest line,
however.)

The reward for the Temple quests is the Ebony Mail, not the Curiass of
the Savior's Hide.

Yeah, I noticed that after I wrote it. Cuirass of the Savior's Hide is the
one I'm wearing now in preference to the Ebony Mail.

Seconded - get Dracandros Voice (sp?) to go with Give Your Orders as
well and things really start to take off. My previous character was
Archmaster of House Redoran and could literally have a private army any
time he wanted it.

Do you have a URL for Dracandros Voice
Search has produced nothing for me. :-(
