Blue screen during OS loading

I built my system about 1.5 years ago. Long story short, a couple of weeks ago it started acting odd and I found out my steam account was hacked. I ran security software and found a virus which windows defender removed. All seemed good, then a few days ago firefox started crashing, IE wouldn't open at all and windows explorer started crashing. deciding it was time for a reload, i used a program to write zeros to the HD and started loading windows 7 64 bit. It seems like it's taking way to long for the load to start up, it shows the windows logo then sits on a blue screen with squizly lines and a mouse pointer for probably 5 minutes. The correct amount of HD space is showing, I format the drive then click next. The problem occurs when it starts loading. during the expanding windows files stage it sits on 0% for several minutes and by the time it hits about 5% it blue screens on me.

Any ideas are appreciated

I think you were right about the memory. In the midst of me posting the original question i reseated the ram and set the timing again, I noticed the last number was set to auto, i set it to 24. Windows finished loading and during updating I've been good for over an hour.
