Converting 720p LCD tv to 1080P

Im sure someone out there has asked this b4 . but does the resolution of an lcd projection tv have to do with the Lamp or software and the lamp..

lets say I have a sony 720 p projection Lcd tv and the new Sonys wich are 1080p projection have interchangeble parts wich parts would I need to change. ?
