My sub computer is for my sis/parents and times when I lan.

Thanks In Advance.

*EDIT: Oh, and they both have pretty good upgrade paths right? Like, my sub can be upgraded to the 65nm athlon 64s and although DS3 may or may NOT be compatible with Kentsfield, still not bad?? :p I don't plan to upgrade in like 3-4 years. 'Cuz then i'll be done gaming.

Huh? Do you mean you will upgrade before 3-4 years and stop upgrading at 3-4 years? Or do you mean you will not upgrade until 3-4 years. But if you will stop gaming in 3-4 years then that would mean you wouldn't need to upgrade? :?

If you don't plan on upgrading until 3-4 years, then you won't have a good upgrade path no matter what you buy.

Also, if that's the case you could get the athlon 64 3400+ deal with a free motherboard from Newegg. Amazing deal. 8)

I might be done gaming, but since computers are improving so fast, it will tempt me to upgrade it.

too bad i can't go get the newegg one because i'm in canada..

How about my rigs? How do they look?
I DS3 because it can oc like crazy and i'll just hit 3.5ish with e6600.

is 7900gt good enough though?

Both systems look good. And as you already appear to know, there is a rumor going around (which I am REALLY hoping is true) that any board which supports Conroe will also support Kentsfield, so you might luck out there.

yep it sure would. kentsfield is comming before this year is up ( they say) so they really dont need to make another chipset or socket for that matter.
they would be losing money

i would drop down to an e6400

got mines for 258 shipped ( though i wanted 3 day shipping so add on 15 bucks)

but then thinking kentsfield being quad core processors are they gonna cost like two core 2 duo's?

i see them going to be in the thousands... hoping im wrong

Mushkin EM2 1024MB PC6400 $119
Carefull. Single Core AMD CPUs do NOT support PC6400(800Mhz) memory. Unfortunatly they only support up to PC5300(667 MHZ). Otherwise looks good.

Yeah, 667Mhz max for Single-Core on AMD.

I'm very happy to know the current 775 boards that support Core 2 Duo are good for Kentsfield! A great decision on Intels part.

Oh Man, Do They Really?!

Thanks for letting me know. Thanks alot.

but I have a question, If i buy that Muskin pc6400 memory, it WILL work but it will downgrade to 677mhz right? Or won't it just work at all??

If it doesn't, I think I'll go with D805 since the computer is mainly for multitasking and playing simple videos. for $35 more.

EDIT: nvm the D805, I can't find any mATX mobos that support 800mhz memory under $150. I think i'll just stick with the rig, and if the memory works, i'll buy the mushkin one.

Yes, it will underclock byitself. You might even be able to tighten some of the timings.

You could always OC the DDR2-800 memory back to 800, though. Can't see them stopping that. It should not void any warranties as the motherboard supports DDR2-800 and the memory is at DDR2-800. Essentially you are OC'ing to gain any lost performance.

I'm not sure why they have it like that...
