best videocard for my new rigg

first ill tell you what ive got..


AMD Athlon 64 X2 4600+ 2.40GHz
ASUS M2N Socket AM2
Patriot Dual Channel 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 800
Seasonic S12-500 500W PSU

i had been flipflopping around with the videocard, the more i research the more i am having trouble desiding..

i have two examples on two cards im looking at, one is 420 dollars the other 270. i am asking if the second card is worth the extra 150 dollars or not, and how much of a performace increase can i expect from the more expencive

The $420 card is a Geforce 7950GX2, which is essentially two 7900GT boards put together using a single PCIe slot. For an indication of performance, check out THG's review of the 7950GX2, which has benchmarks comparing it to the Radeon X1900XTX and Geforce 7900GTX, which is essentially an overclocked 7900GT.

The 7950GX2 is faster because it's has two PCBs (two graphics boards), two 7900GT GPUs, and two sets of memory. It's basically two 7900GTs but it only needs a single PCIe slot.

Depends on the resolution you want to play at for those two cards.

i just dont know if its worth a 150 dollar increase in price for a 5 fps increase..

Its more than 5fps....thats certain, but like I said, depends on the resolution you choose to run at.
