I agree Assman I was originaly going with the AM2 x2 3800 for price reasons until I read the review on the E6300 and E6400 with oc. E6400 for me if somebody will get the price ironed out.

check this out Overclocking the E6400 8)

according to this link a e6400 at 3.4g is just with the e6800 @ 2.9g why is that? is it because of the cache? or is it because it was gpu limited ? and if it was'nt gpu limited does that mean the they would encode about the same?
unfortunately they only ran oc'd game benchmarks so i am trying to put it all in perspective.
I am used to more of a clock for clock comparison like the P4's

the tests in the earlier parts of the article are done with the 6400 at stock speeds, therefore it is bested by the 6800. There are no oced results with media encoding in the article. The test was very gpu limited. Compared to a p4, in terms of SuperPi a conroe is roughly 3x faster whereas a conroe is close to 30% faster than a Athlon 64 of the same clock. However superpi is pure single core/cache muscle and doesnt reflect on dualcores verywell especially with intel's unfair shared cache.
