I am looking for a new AGP card as I am not ready to splurge on a new system for PCI-E. I would like to find a overclockable card with the ability to unlock pipes.

I think the 7800gs is too expensive for technology that is out-of-date.

Anyone know of anything like that?

Some people in the NewEgg reviews have claimed they unlocked this card's pipes:

Some even claim it came with 16 pipes. It's still a gamble though, as not all X800GTO's unlock.

You won't be able to unlock any pipes, I don't think at least, with this card but it will overclock well.

And oh yeah, go Panthers!

There is no guaranty you can sucessfully unlock pipes or get stable overclocks with anything. You can try to make informed decisions, but don't be upset when you buy a card with all intentions of doing something, and then not be able to do it. You're much better off just buying the card you want to begin with, and then being happy with anything extra you can do, instead of the other way around.

I know this card is a little out of date to some people, but I heard those 6600gt's can overclock like hell. I had one but I never had the guts to overclock it like mad.

I have a 6800gt that is great on AGP. I also bought a 6800gs ( as the gt's are getting hard to find ). I managed to use Riva Tuner to unlock my 6800gs and now it performs as well as the 6800gt.

They both overclock extremely well and put in a decent performance. The 256bit memory bus on the 6800 series is suppier to the 6600 series and if you want to have fast access to 256Mb of graphics memory get a 256bit card. Make sure anything you pick out has GDDR3. Older and slower memory has a big impact in performance.

Hope that info helps.

You were right Gary_Busey...I had heard the same thing about the x800gto pipes coming unlocked so I had to try it. And yes, I have the r430 chip and the card came shipped with 16 pipes already unlocked 8O. I was glad that I didnt need to flash the bios, that always makes me nervous.

I was shopping around for 16 pipes for an AGP system and was torn between the x800gto and the 7800gs. I know I said I thought the 7800gs was too expensive (and still do), but it was the sure bet for 16 pipes.

Thanks for all your inputs...I found what I was looking for 8)

:?: BTW, what is my best option for getting rid of my 9800pro card? Ebay? :?:
