I have just got a Xeon 3.0Ghz 2MB cache 800Mhz. I would like to build a 1ru rackmount server with this cpu. This is my first time trying to build a rack server, can someone please give me some advise for the following? Thanks!

1. Are all(most) of the serverboards can fit into a 1u rack case? How can I tell if it can't?

2. Any recommendations on serverboards and the chassis? I'm looking for a budget lower than $400 (serverboard + chassis).

3. Is it possible to match up Gigabyte GA-9IVDT and Intel SR1400?

My plan is to have the following config:

Xeon 3.0Ghz 2MB cache 800Mhz
2GB Kingston ECC Registerd DDR2 (might add up some more ram in the future)
2x250GB SATA2 (might switch to SCSI in the future)
Onboard display

1) No, not all serverboards will fit into a 1u rack case.
Most mainboard vendors will put a /1U extention to their model numbers.

2) You will have to look localy for pricing, but i am pretty sure you could have a Asus PVL-D/ 1U.

3) Dunno

I thought Asus PVL-D/1u is already out of my budget. Thanks for the recommandation.
