last I heard, 965 do not support DDR3. Other than that, I take it you're not running SLI. And make note: with the GigaByte mobo, you must use stock fan. If you try to use an aftermarket, good luck getting the back plate off the mobo  And for hard drives, don't quote me, but Seagate's "perpendicular recording drives" are supposedly good in comparison with WD's Raptors. But like I said, don't quote me on that. For CD/DVD writers... uh... stay away from Sony? You're better off getting a NEC DVD writer. But hey, if you have the money and love digital movies, go for Blu-Ray XP But I wouldn't really suggest it since it'll be a while before Blu-Ray becomes the standard... or was it HD-DVD.. I don't know lol. Other than that, I don't know the timings of the RAM you have there, but I do know that Corsair has DDR2 8000 with 4-4-4-12 with EPP for a decent price... to me at least. But yea. I'm waiting for my E6600 before ordering everything else. By the time my CPU gets here, they'll probably start releasing DX10 cards! :p

Man, I can see your putting some serious coinage into your rig... You might as well also go with an aftermarket cooling solution if your planning on spending all that money... unless you already have a case and everything for it... anyways...

I like the Asus P5W-DH Deluxe mobo better than the Gigabyte, mainly because it uses the 975 chipset instead.

If you get the Asus, don't get the OCZ gold, and get the Corsair DDR2 PC6400C4. If you can afford it... get the PC8000... but thats about double the price... shrug

You might want to look at the XFX Geforce7950GX2 XXX edition, it comes with a 50mhz overclock, if your interested in that...

The TruePower 550W should be enough. Sound card looks good.

CD/DVD, go with whatever, BENQ is good, so is NEC... meh... stuff like that is basically what you want. You can get 750 gig HDD's now, but I would get 500gig hdd's since they're decent deals these days. They all use Perpindicular recording technology which offers a slight performance boost from horizontal... and Seagate has NCQ with thier HDD's which can also help in performance.

No need for Blu-Ray or HD-DVD until they get it standerized...

Why are you going with that processor when the x2 5000 beats it in every test and is cheaper and cooler.
And go with a plextor DVDrw They are the best you can get.

Wait.. Where are you gonna find that processor again?
And what are you smoking... I doubt it beats the C2D EE

Oh man :(
:: puts hands over face ::
Every benchmark done so far on the Core2duo has wiped up AMD. I was picking on fanboy's attidude and thought it would be recongnized as satire! Oh well. And ya I think you cant fint the x2 5000s anywhere.

And imo for CD drives...
I have had bad luck with sony drives and they come with roxio not nero.
And Plextor has been the leader on optical drives forever! They are more expencive though, but considering your build, it fits right in. Plus the plextors rip DVD's at the highest speeds I have tested.

The Plextor DVD/RW is a given, and a pair of WD 150 GB Raptors (RAID0) would also fit right in (if you go for the X6800 money seems less of an objective). Both are fairly expensive, but do give just that bit more.

I'm not so sure about the PSU. Antec is fine, but somehow I've got a feeling a bit more won't hurt. A PCP&C 850 or OZC 700 feels better. It's always nice to have a bit extra juice, and if you want to add a 2nd 7950GX2 and some more HDD's later I'm not so sure the 550 will do.

Good advise on here so far....

You haven't mentioned cooling or a case, for both I'd get the following.

Custom water cooled lian li case with 3 x 120mm rad.
cas-307_4.jpg

And for a power supply, the Enermax Galaxy 1000W modular psu.

Neither, I've always been firmly rooted on the practicality/value side of things. This build is an exercise in e-penis enlargement. But hey, whatever a guy has to do to sleep at night I guess. :?

New Egg sells it for $250 and its instock. And all benchmarks even on this website give this processor a %22 percent gain over anything core2duo can offer.

Explains why I think all the CompTIA tests prove nothing.... Core2Duo crushes the FX and you are saying that the 5000+ is faster than AMD's top chip?

I didn't realize you'd appointed yourself to the post of forum shrink.

Careful, that mirror might reach out and smack ya.

Your ignorance is beyond belief.

It doesn't take a psychology degree to know what you're up to. Still trolling because you were pwned in another thread? So sorry to see. Grow up, or at least try to act your age.

I don't know what compTIA has to do with this...

And I'm sure the other guy wasn't trying to state that he is a "forum shrink" but I can speak with personal experience and I'm sure joefriday will agree that most people who drop this kind of money on a system do it to inflate their e-penis. Perhaps he was wrong, big deal...

lol.
You need to start reading all the posts before you pick one out to respond to. I said it was not serious and its obvious (except to fan boys) that the conclusions I made were stupid and impossible.

And ya lite-on makes great products... but sadly not great for bragging rights.

Edit: Unless: a 100x lite-on "Monster Premium Elite Plus" DVD-RW/BlueRay/HD combo drive plated in gold and silver that automaticly burns your favorite music as it becomes availibe.

Dude, when you go making conclusions about someone's motivation for buying a high-end rig, you're the one that looks incredibly ignorant. You can try to act like this is a continuation, but that's because you can't face up to the stupid sh!t you said in this thread.

You're jealous, face it. Green, it's oozing.
