I dont know wich card to get, ATI's or Nvidia's, so this can help me a lot.
I want to know wether to get Nvidia for PureVideo, or ATI for AVIVO.
I know PureVideo costs money, but i dont know anything else, so any input is appriciated. Also, can i buy the PureVideo stuff without using a credit card.. maybe not online?
Wait for some updated reviews, nV's just launched improved drivers with some of the basic Purevideo features improved and included for free.
- New NVIDIA PureVideo features and enhancements. Please visit the NVIDIA PureVideo website for more information on PureVideo technology and system requirements.
o Adds noise reduction post processing
o Adds image sharpening post processing
o Improved Inverse telecine algorithm
o Improved de-interlacing algorithm
o Improved compatibility with third party MPEG-2 decoders
ATi still has the free accelerated video converter though, but for the playback decoding stuff really wait for the updated reviews (likely soon) to see how they matchup.
Having decent experience with AVIVO helps.....right now, AVI files produced using FRAPS tend to get a little fubard for some reason in conversion to say...MPEG4 :?: Other than that I love it for the video work I occasionally do...
My experiences are relating to the X1800XT I own, the file conversion is quite quick. Also, CPU... I had a few coupled with the card.....ummm X2 3800+, Venice 3200+ overclocked Opteron 148 then with the 775 board i had a cheap ass D805 (overclocked quite nicely too ) Right now its sitting with the opteron though.
Just because you messed up buying an FX doesn't mean that it requires this much second guessing, especially when people provide you go info.
But really stuff like the CC part you need to ask nV not here.
Its not that.. i think that the X1900XT is better and i can afford it.
But i like Nvidia and ive always wanted a 7 series card, so its more abt how much i like a card and not how it performs. Its just that they are so close in performance.
So you're buying the card just because you 'like' Nvidia?
And if you're comparing the 7900GT and the X1900XT, the performance between the two isn't very close. The X1900XT is much faster.
We always prefer what is "known" and what is "comfertable" right?
Well ive had the FX5200 for a year and before that i had the MX 4 400.
So the only card i ever had that isnt Nvidia is a Voodoo 3 3000 and i was too young to care back then.

Not if i overclock the 7900 GT and volt mod it.
Well if you overclock the X1900XT then the X1900XT is faster than an overclocked 7900GT. I prefer what "performs better" and what "the best deal is".

Thats not true. The 7900 GT Overclocked is just like a GTX and they are pretty much the same as the X1900XT, sometimes better and sometimes worse, depeding on shader performance, things like Fetch4 or OpenGL usage.
And beside that, i think i would like having the 7900 GT more. I mean i like both cards, and ill have much fun with them, and if i dont think abt it so much ill like havint the X1900XT despite it being an ATI card, but then i think how much more happy ill be with a 7900 GT. But heck, i dont know how ill feel after all this, maybe after i completely rebuild my PC ill feel differently.. I wish u could return cards u buy on the net.

Yes, but you can get the X1900XT, and overclock that, which would be even better.

Then get it.....
That doesn't even make any sense, to buy something thats not as good so you feel more comfortable. If you KNOW the x1900xt is better, get it, don't worry about who makes it. If your that in love with nVIDIA and buy something just because they make it, you have problems. :? 8O
Oh my, another "the 7900GT overclocks to 7900GTX" comment.
I get so sick of these without the added fact that so many crap out while trying to OC. I can't believe how many people get drawn into the first one without giving any thought to the later. I'm feeling the urge to whip out a few dozen 7900GT horror story links.

Hold it, I KNOW YOU CAN HOLD IT. Resist with all your power.
Either u can overclock the 7900 GT to a GTX or u cant. If u have proof of either post it or get the f"ck out, cause saying that someone is wrong without backing it up makes u look like a shithead.

Struck a nerve huh. Actually, I doubt that's the way I look as most people here know exactly what I am talking about as it's been brought up over and over again. You are just un/misinformed.
See, you are off track because the third and way more common than normal possibility is you can overclock it like stink and then poof 4 hours or two weeks later it just up and dies. That's my big issue about people who make comments like yours, especially when they are giving advice (which you were not). While it's true most 7900GT's OC very well, it' also true that the failure rate of factory overclocked and user overclcoked cards is way higher compared to other cards. I feel it's careless to mention one without the other when giving advice. anyway, If you haven't heard about this then you know didly-freakin-squat about the 7900GT's. And if you did know about it but choose to push the 7900GT's work at 7900GTX speeds comments anyway, then you are misleading and really not worth listening to at all.
XFX shut their forums down after an onslaught of 7900 series artifact/death issues. Coincidence?
Shoot, read some newegg user reviews. While some comments are often a joke, many people receiving brand new cards that artifact out of the box or shortly after, is something worth considering.
eVGA forums has a sticky created by eVGA themselves updating the status of the 7900 series issues. Plus they have an 11 page thread tallying up the bad 7900's.
And while evga supposedly has the issue fixed, there are still many cards from old batches being sold and their tally of dead cards list is still growing as a result.

He may be a shithead, but he knows what he's talking about so I would shut up
I am in such a good mood and having so much fun in this thread, I almost couldn't care what you call me. Although I can't recall ever being called that one here, and now it's twice in a short period. 8O
7900GT can oc with volt mod even up to 700mhz core.
So go out and buy your precious nvidia and burn it to hell with voltmodding. It will be a lesson.
x1900xt is by far a better card. Maybe today games cant use it but I believe you will see the performance gap between 1900 and 7900 series widen as time goes by.
Im seeing price cuts here in Croatia on 1900xt, they are selling for the price of 7900GT.
