I've got this weird problem in my LAN - I can crash my switch (i've
tried two Linksys and one DLink so far) when I am playing streaming
video with Windows Media Player and UDP protocol - it can take a few
seconds or a few minutes. I can reproduce the problem with a single
laptop or a single PC connected to the Switch. Router is a Alcatel
SpeedTouch. When the Switch crashes it seems to stay in a infinite
loop with the router (Switch-Router connection LED blinking at fast
rate - bouncing packets back and forth ?). Collision LED also blinks
at fast rate and connection is lost either inside the LAN either to
the internet - I have to unplug the Switch from power and plug it
again to restore normal functioning. I never had this problem when
connecting any computer directly to the router. Also, when i get this
problem if i plug the router directly to the PC, normal connection is
re-established so everything seems to be ok with the Router. If I
change to TCP streaming problem does not happen - I know for TCP there
is a client-server connection established so the router knows always
where to send the packets but with UDP which is connectionless
problemas may arise. I don't know why the Switch hangs - buffer
overrun ? CAM entry in the Switch times out ? I would appreciate any
ideas.
