O.K. I am still new to the Pocket PC world. I have an IPAQ 2200. How do I
even get started? I read something about buying a network card....

Can I use the same Internet provider that I use for my home Internet
service?

I am lost..

Just start using it... all of the default apps have contact sensitive
help... tap start/help when you have a question on what you are doing.

Wireless, Internet should wait until you are comfortable with the
interface, entering text, deciding between typing, writing, grafitti, etc.

After the device is comfortable, install activesync from the CD, and
install Outlook from the same CD before the first connect if you don't
already have it (Outlook "Express" doesn't count, login with admin
rights for these installs)

Make sure the Outlook key doesn't get thrown out with the
giftwrapping... the key's worth a good percentage of the cost of the device.

Set upp syncing, import your contacts, and between doing all of this,
you will probably be back here a number of times with specific questions.

Tip... it looks like windows, and works like windows, but it can't do
everthing that windows can... appreciate what it _can_ do (hellava lot
more than palm) and you will be amazed at it's capabilities... long
before you get an internet connection.

Happy Holidays,

The best way to go online when out and about is via your phone (you need
a bluetooth or infra-red phone that supports it, most Nokias over 18
months old do).
If you have a wireless network at home, or you're going to be somewhere
that has a a wireless network (internet cafe, workplace, school etc)
then you could go for a network card and connect to the Internet via
another network. The admin of that network would be able to set you up.
However for general useage everywhere then using GPRS is the best way to
get online - you only need a mobile that supports it, and most do now.

Anne-

I assume you really want wireless connection to the Internet that you can
use at home and away. That also assumes you have a wireless router in your
home for connecting to your Internet provider. Given that is case, start
with acquiring a wireless network card for your 2200. I recommend that you
get a card that fits in the compact flash slot on your handheld. Save the
SD slot for memory expansion cards. You can locate a number of inexpensive
CF network cards on eBay. Most will be 802.11b protocol, but they are
compatible with 802.11g wireless if that is what you have on your home
network.

Once you have the card, you need to configure the network software that
comes with it to work with your home wireless system. This is mainly
entering the WEP encryption code you created for your home system. Once you
set things up properly, your handheld will connect to the internet through
you home wireless system. Check mail and surf the net. However, you will
notice it is a bit slower than you would like, but serviceable. Away from
home, you will be able to connect to "free" or "public" wireless hotspots
almost automatically. At "pay for play" hotspots such as Starbucks, etc.,
you will need to setup and use a profile that contains handshaking
information that they require and provide to subscribers.
