newegg.com has the 7800GTX for only $100 though. Good choice for low amount of money.

I would buy it!

Yea, that's a good price.

To answer the original question:

I don't see a 7800GTX for anywhere near $100 on NewEgg. Did you eat the thermal paste again?

No way, they would not sell a 7800GTX for $100, more like $400. IF you are right please link it. Until then I am going to agree that you thought the Arctic Silver 5 was candy :D

To the OP: They are both very similar cards, but the 7900GT runs cooler and is cheaper. If you have a choice and both are the same price, get the 7900GT for cooler operation and also If you want SLI 7900GT's will be much easier to find.

dont bother with cheese, i've seen him post a $100 7800GTX on 3 or 4 threads today

is your question about price or which is faster?

Reply to EVIL_H0MER

Go with the 7900GT as performance is roughly the same or better, depending on application, to the 7800GTX. Plus the it costs less and runs cooler.

Reply to nategarst

gee, id love to see this $100 7800GTX

im pretty sure you just made that price up.

The stickies are there for a reason:

Vid Card Short List

"The Geforce 7900 GT is an underclocked 7900 GTX - a powerful and very overclockable 24-pipeline card, even better than the 7800 GTX. This card is a gaming monster, especially for the price. While it is equalled - and occasionally bettered - by it's price competitor the Radeon X1800 XT 256mb, the 7900 GT will win it's share of benchmarks, and it tends to be a bit cheaper.
The real strength of the 7900 GT is it's highly overclockable core. It's the overclocker's choice in this price segment."

I've never seen a 7900GT for $200, but the 256MB X1800XT can easily be found at that price. :?

While probably varying by design, Digit-life has tested the 7900GT to be the noisest card out there.

Reply to pauldh

well thats that but i think you are right the fan in the 7800 is way bigger than any fan on the 7900gt
