Tom's hardware reports that the X2 3600 (2.00 GHz, 256KB per core) is being released to partners (oems) at the price of $149. That is only $9 cheaper than the X2 3800, but it was mentioned that price drops for the X2 3600 will likely happen. My question is, how much cheaper would the X2 3600 need to be to persuade you from buying an X2 3800 or Pentium D?

Intel has a sub $100 dual-core(805D), so i think that's the price range that AMD should be aiming for.

Yeah, but money does make a huge difference. For a time this summer, I was actually tempted to jump on the 805 bandwagon and get one of those for sub-100 prices. Fortunately for them, the person I was going to build the computer for had to back out, so it never got ordered. Now that AMD is coming out with a new X2 proc, it may be time to go dual core with my own system. I can't handle 130-140 bucks for one, but a sub-100 price would be ideal for me. I guarantee that if they did that, they would sell out in a moment. Why? Because it still kicks the crap out of anything in that price range. And don't try to bring C2D into this, as it is DEFINITELY not in that price range.

X2 owns the P4D competition. C2D owns both. Sub-150? AMD is still king.
