After installing 840987 update on my Windows XP, every time I logon I get a
message box with "One of the files containing the system's Registry data had
to be recovered by use of a log or alternate copy. The recovery was
successful."

This is very annoying. I did a search and got this explanation:

Error Message:
(Registry Recovery) One of the files containing the system's Registry data
had to be recovered by use of a log or alternate copy. The recovery was
successful.

User Action:
This Windows 2000 Executive STATUS message is for your information. Choose
OK to continue. No other action is needed.

?????????????????????

Bob,

I am receiving this message as well. Your insight on kb840987 was
right on. We removed it and viola the error is gone. Windows automatic
update service immediately saw the fix missing and scheduled it for
reinstallation. We allowed it to re-install and the error immediately
returned. I am posting another response to some other people and see
if there is a more conclusive answer. maybe a reg massage that will
get rid of this and allow the fix to do the rest of it's job.

Thanks

Jim
