Hey I'm looking for a good and not too expensive videocard for 1680 x 1050. I found the eVGA 7900GT Signature Series, but I've heard they're really problematic. I want to try to stick with eVGA, since they have the Step-up program and if they pop out a DX10 soon, then I can switch it up.
For that high of resolution do you think I can just stay with a 256MB card or should I goto 512MB?? Would a OC'd 7900GT be sufficient for me??
Yeah, it should be sufficient. As many people have stated in many threads memory usage becomes a non-issue when dealing with 256-512 mb of ram. Go with the OC'd 7900, itll be better than the 512 stock version. No games can really take advantage of the higher amount of ram available, so it is pointless now. With the higher resolutions, clock speed becomes a bit more important, as it is able to move those large textures much faster and with less problems.
Memory isn't much of an issue, 256MB plenty for most mid and entry high level cards.
Pretty much any X series or 6 series card or newer will be able to support 1680x1050. I got my card for $90 and I can play HL2 on pretty high settings at 1680x1050 and it runs fairly smoothly. A 7900 would be more than enough until DX10 cards arrive.
