x1800xt hands down

Don't buy that 7900gt or you'll be sending it back in a week.
evga has a new 7900gt ko that will work for you.

the best video card deal you can find on newegg is this x1900xt
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6814127206

it's alot better than the x1800xt and 7900gt..
but if i had to choose between the x1800xt or the 7900gt that i showed you. i'd pick the 7900gt if your going to play open gl games like doom3 and quake4.
if you're going to play oblivion then get the x1800xt.
but the x1900xt is better than both those cards..

The two cards aren't even close to the same league. The X1800XT for sure.

should i just save 2 bucks lol

One's OEM and one's retail. Basically, OEM means you just get the card, and retail means you get the card along with the manual, install CD, all the cables and whatever else is thrown in there. For only $2, you might as well get the retail.

I agree. The OEM cards typically don't have as long a warranty. If they're open box, you only get 15 days to see whether it works or not.

X1800XT is a CLEAR winner.

Agreed.

For two bucks I'd definately get the retail L version (actually that's the one I have also). But if you look at the pictures, you can see that the only difference in the bundle is the small fancy retial box. The OEM has the same cables, adaptors, and driver CD.

Possible better warranty (unsure to be honest) makes me say the L is worth the extra money. But I tell ya, with their new extended warranty garbage, it seems that newegg is unclear on warranties now. If anyone knows for sure how long Sapphire or Newegg warranties those two cards, I'd like to hear it.

How is the xt1800xt (above card) compared to a 7800gt or 7900gt?

The X1800XT easily beats a 7800GT. I have one of each. X1800XT is about equal or IMO a bit above a reference 7900GT. They trade blows depending on the game and review site. When considering overclocking both give a good gain, but the 7900GT has better potential for higher OC's but that comes with a better chance of card failure when trying to OC.

Anway, if priced the same hard to fault anyone for buying either the X1800XT or the 7900GT. I am not brand loyal and have used NV and ATI cards about equally as much. So with current prices of $200 for the X1800XT, $240 for the 7900GT, and $280 for the X1900XT, the 7900GT makes no sense whatsoever to me. Because of the buring up issues that have plagued them, i don't put much weight into their potentially outstanding overclocks.

This review shows the 256MB X1800XT beating out a 7900GT with better high res AA/AF performance. The X1900GT loses to both.

The Digitlife charts give a bunch of games at various resolutions with and without FSAA/AF. Overall, the X1800Xt outdoes the 7900GT IMO, but you decide on the winner based on your games and resolution. http://www.digit-life.com/articles [...] index.html

Oblivion wasn't tested in those charts but is down below. If you plan on dumping alot of time into that game, the X1800XT is better, or better yet the X1900XT.
