Hi All,

Just wanted to get some info on which of these ATI graphics cards to buy. I have found both cards priced at around £150. Any tips on which would perform better in games would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Brasco.

I have heard a lot about the noisy HSFs on these cards. What HSF should I get for this card (I have seen a few good Zalman HSFs)?

Any tips appreciated.

Let me guess you have been looking at Overclockers.co.uk? :)

Yeah I've noitced them to, I can't belive how well priced those cards are. Althought the 1800Xt has slightly better prefromacne then the 1900GT the 1900 uses less power, creates less noise and its only a single slot card.

If you want to change the HSF I would by the Arctic Cooling Accelero X2. I've seen a few reviews and its highly rated.

Does anyone have any links to hardware reviews that compare the X1800 range with the X1900 range on games performance. Would be interested to see the FPS values for both cards.

And yes I have been on OCUK ;)

Just google X1800 XT vs X1900 GT I was looking at reviews on the same cards yestarday and the results are interesting.

Its best you look at several sites so you get clear picture before makeing any decisions.

X1800XT for sure. And unless you are going to OC the snots out of it, I'd hold off on an aftermarket cooler until you try it. I actually feel my Sapphire X1800XT is pretty quiet and only ramps up to about 49% fan speed while gaming. My 7800GT is louder.

But OC'in it alot and using ATI tool to set the fan speed higher, then the X1800Xt cooler gets loud. 100% would be unbearable, above 70% is too loud IMO.

Depending on your budget, you can get the MSI X1900XT card for $280. But you will have to pay $380 initially and send in for the $100 mail-in-rebate.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814127206

This is around 80 bucks more than the cheapest X1800XT I've seen on Newegg.

Newegg has two Sapphire X1800XT cards. Both retail. Though one's $203 and the other is $260. Anyone know the difference?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.asp?N=2010380048+1305520549+106790809+1067918503&Submit=ENE&SubCategory=48

If one compares the $260 X1800XT to the $280 (after rebate) X1900XT, then the X1900XT is the winner for price/performance. If the $203 X1800XT is used instead then this becomes the price/performance winner.

I based this off of Anandtech's website.

The lowest Uk seller I have found is Overclockers.co.uk

This is really surprising as they are a specialist site and they are not known for their low prices. The price of the X1800XT was so low (£150) I even emailed them to check they had the right the price and it wasn't a mistake (which BTW it wasn't it’s a genuine offer).

If you are going to go with the X1800XT get a third party cooler like that one from Artic I mentioned yesterday.

BWT does anyone know if you remove the stock HSF from a card and replace it does it invalidate the warranty?

Are you sure about that?

Not that I have had to claim on warranty yet. ATI sure kept that very quiet :)

When/If you replace the HSF keep the old one in draw and if anything goes wrong just swap them back over. I haven't had to do this before but thats what I would do.

The other option is is connecting the fan on the card up to fan controller. You may need an extention cable but it might be less hassle then replacing the whole thing.

The X1800XT and X1900XT both ahve temperature controlled fans that increase RPM with temperatures. When you boot them up, they ramp up to 100% for a couple seconds and then way back down after that.

ATI tool lets you over-ride the cards bios settings and manually set a fan speed, or even change the temperature and corresponding fan RPM. So no need for a fan controller when it can be done in software.

I wish those punks never opened up operations in NJ. The added 7% sales tax often puts zipzoom or others below their best deals. Hard to beat Neweggs Graphics card selection though.
