installing DirectX 8

Did anyone try to install directX 8 on windows 2000 server?
Microsoft says on their website that it can be installed on w2k server but when i try to do it it says you cannot install it on NT.

make sure your are installing the NT/2000 version of direct x 8......there are two: 95/98 and NT/2000. are you using microsoft windows update service, or installing from a disk? If you are not, try downloading direct x 8 from the microsoft update website. i have it on my 2000 server. ir runs great!

I have it on mine as well. No problems. Be sure to get it from the Windows Update site so you get the right one.

LOL those were the days- a reboot took like a second or so, but installing (loading as it was called then) took forever

Or how about those programs that wouldn't run using the "run" command. You had to type sys32768 or another number. And god help you if you lost the number. You could spend an hour trying different ones until you got it. But as you said, at least the reboot took about a second and a half!
