OK. So here it its.
My Mexican friend finally gathered enough money to build his rig. Actually, we both did, but I'm going to wait until I'm at MIT to scavenge for parts (I'm cheap).
The deal is this. I'm his source of computer stuff. Mexican prices are outrageous ($130 for a Radeon 9250 PCI, come on), so he probably won't upgrade anything until December, when I come to visit.
We've gone through several revisions, but we're almost set. This is the list:
NEC DVD burner (pretty much set)

Cooler Master Centurion 5 Case (pretty much set)

Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 320GB (pretty much set)

DFI Infinity Ultra AM2 Motherboard (what do you think?)

Antec Truepower II 550W PSU (what do you think?)

Logitech MX518 Mouse (pretty much set)

G. Skill 2x1GB DDR2 800 (what do you think?)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16820231065
Athlon X2 4200 (what do you think?)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16819103747
Oh, and by the way, my friend plans to use a Radeon x700 while waiting for a vid card on December. I know it's a lot to ask, but what do you guys think.
Should he go with a X2 3800 and overclock later down the road?
Too much power?
Too expensive RAM?
What's the difference between NForce4 and Nforce 500? Any? To me it looks like the same performance.
Also, he plans on gaming but only after I bring his vid card. He works on a magazine, meaning Photoshop and the like. Since he has no way of upgrading, he plans on OCing if necessary (that's why I thought of that RAM.
Please reply this is really urgent.
Thank you.
