DNS not registering

Greetings,

I have two DNS servers (Primary and Secondary). I just created a new Foward Lookup Zone for a site we took over in Pensacola, FL. We had all the servers point their DNS to our servers. Yet not one replicates. We have to manually put in host (a) files. Has anyone run across this?

I have had them try ipconfig /registerdns and we got Event ID 11165, DNSAPI.

I'm lost.

Is the DHCP client service started on the servers? Also, on the "General"
tab of your DNS properties, change the Dynamic Update to "nonsecure and
secure" instead of just "secure"

All of our clients have Static IP's. As for the updates, we allow both secure and non secure.

It does not matter whether they are static or not, make sure the DHCP client
is started. Then try ipconfig /registerdns.

In addition, there are a few factors that stipulate registration. One of
them is that the clients need to be Windows 2000 or newer (and assuming so
in your case, but you didn't point that out). Another stipulation is that
the Primary DNS Suffix of these machines must exactly match the zone name
that you are allowing updates in. One more stipulation is that the machines
need to ONLY be pointing to this DNS server in their IP properties. If you
have additional DNS addresses, then you're going to get inconsistent
results.

Of course, we all know that with AD we need to be ONLY pointing to the
servers hosting the zone name for AD or errors WILL result with AD
functionality.

And yes, the DHCP client service is a very integral part of the mechanism,
whether the machines are static or not. It MUST be running.

Q268674 - No DNS Name Resolution or Registration occurs if the DHCP Client
Service Is Not Running:
