Hey how are we all doing today!

Listen I have some questions for you all and I sure hope someone out there can shed some light on them.

Originally I was all geared up for the AMD AM2 processor. Like the Athlon 64 3800+ Orleans 2000MHz 2.4hz or the Athlon 64 X2 4200+ Windsor 2000MHz 2.2hz

However after reading about the advantages of increased L2 Cache I did a search on Newegg for processors that had cache L2 @ 2x1mb & 2x2mb, not paying any attention to manufacture settings. It would seem that Intel has some interesting processors. Sorry but I say that because I have been using AMD for so long and am totally out of touch with what Intel has been doing lately! Unfortunately this has increased my choices and added more confusion.

From the list I now have added:

- Pen D LGA 775
- Xeon 771
- Athlon 64 X2 Socket 939

Things to consider for a NEW gaming system:

- Best bang for the buck pricing under $250
- I'm not interested in over clocking
- A processor that is going to last a while, not "old" technology

Consider these Questions:

- To consider these processors I will not be getting a AND AM2 chip, who is better here? AM2 - 775 - 771 - 939?
- Should I go even go Dual Core?
- Should I just go with L2 @ 2x512kb?

I think I'm going crazy!

Hey lets try and break it down to this.
For the best bang for the buck Intel or AMD:

Best Processor at around $100?

Best Processor at around $200?

Best Processor at around $250?

Thanks you one and all for your time and help.
I look forward to and suggestions?

Sincerely

Ur putting too much info on ur post IMHO. u should just get to the main point next time.
as for price/perf. I think the s939's would be the best. a 939 X2 3800 costs roughly 190 on newegg.
