I'm a NEWBIE with LCDs. But Just wondering who currently has the best LCDs? Is it Samsung? And is it worth getting a tv-tuner for your LCD?

It really depends, there are many good companies. Are u looking to buy an LCD, and if so at what price and size, and for what purposes?

Yes I was looking for a 24". I was thinking of getting the Samsung 240T. It has everything I want but still thinking because there is always a downside to everything but I just haven't figure it out yet. Price I can careless of. Just quality and features. Purpose would be just the computer and maybe have a tv tuner to it. That's bout it. Nothing special. Just want a nice LCD. Thx for the reply!

damn, you wanna touss me some money... hehe money=careless
anyway i think the samsung and viewsonic is good, but then also if you go to dell.com they have some expensive monitors also, but i dont know how good they are

Since you want just a computer and a nice lcd, and money is not an issue! but rather quality and perhaps style!

I suggest a Apple Powermac dual G4 with 24in Apple lcd! movie look awesome on that monitor!

Reply to imo

uggh, MAC! No! Hehe, if he has a lot of money to spend, why not get that 15,000$ IBM?

Sig of the week.

Reply to flamethrower205

the MAC looks real good, and its not hat extreamly expensive also. i even think i might get a Imac for the kitchen, but i wonder the refresh time on the screen.

isn't 60hz kind of like the standard for digital lcd?

Reply to imo

he may mean response time. I believe I read somewhere it was 40ms, but don't take that as the final say, as I'm not 100% sure on it. 60Hz really depends- at native res, yeah.

Sig of the week.

Reply to flamethrower205

DAMN are you guys CRAZY? It's not bout the money! It's bout the QUALITY! And I don't need a $15000 computer from IBM as to me IBM is just the name you are paying for. I already have a P4 2.2ghz which is plenty for me. The Apple dual G4's are really GOOD BUT for video editing only. Not really an Apple fan anyways. Response time in a LCD isn't really my problem but the features it has and hoping it's DVI... Thanks for all the post guys!

Reply to Vince604

Hehe, chill, I was just joking. The samsung one is nice.

Sig of the week.

Reply to flamethrower205

haha ya I know. dun worry bout it. But is there any possible way to put a tv tuner on the Samsung 240T?

Reply to Vince604

The monitor doesn't come w/ it, but maybe if you contacted Samsung, they may have some sort of converter or something for it.

Sig of the week.

Reply to flamethrower205

would you settle for a 19"?

after spending $4000 on this monitor, you can easily pay an additional 100 for an externail tv tuner such as the one by Viewsonic http://www.viewsonic.com/products/video_vb50hrtv.cfm

and just to make sure your next door pal don't have the same lcd as yours, maybe this Sun lcd will be nice for about same price

that sun monitor looks hell of good, but i dont think you need one of those if your not professional

Reply to profjo00

Just get a seperate PCI TV Tuner card, like a Hauppauge or an ATI one.

Jack Burton is a great man...

oh man, that monitor is hot! Too bad the price tag is crazy.

Sig of the week.

Reply to flamethrower205

Thank you all for the posts! Well my mind wants Samsung because it's more known. However the Sun LCD looks crazy but not sure if it's going to perform the way it looks. Also the Samsung 240T has the 2 side panel speakers. So not too sure anymore. Which one would you guys prefer?...

Reply to Vince604

There really isn't much info on teh Sun, I'd go with the 240T.

I would go with Viewsonic...there products are good...the Samsung LCD also are good...I would either get 1 of these manufacturers....I got the Vg181... and i think it's really nice... Friend of mine bought the Samsung 170T... Very nice picture and the Price is very good.

Cornerstone also has a 23 incher, but it appears to be the same as the Viewsonic one, and is $500 more though. The 240T is more expensive, but who knows, maybe PVA is slightly better than MVA.

Sig of the week.

Reply to flamethrower205

Well I took a quick look at Viewsonic and everything is good cept the max resolution on it is 1280x1024. Cornerstone I didn't see any real special features on it but might be just for the name your paying for. I guess Samsung might still be in the lead?.... Thx for keeping the posts comin!

By JUNE will there be a new Technology for LCD's... making them with Better Resolution...What is a good response time.. My crap monitor that i had that came with my original comp Blew..so i had to run out on short notice and get what i could afford... i went to Circuit city and got an NEC for like 130$ that's basically all i had.. the Edges are Blury..and i hate that.......i don't want my LCD to look like that

Reply to Rob423

The Viewsonic VP230mb has a 1600x1200 res. You sure they just weren't using 1280x0124 cause the vid card couldn't do it in DVI or something- or they were using a splitter?

Sig of the week.

Reply to flamethrower205

A good response time would be 25ms. Personally, I don't think teh rise time should be more than 15ms, cause then it gets plain annoying.

Sig of the week.

Reply to flamethrower205

Opps! Sorry I was looking at the wrong series! Yes the VP230mb has a 1600x1200 res. Anyways what are the extra features that they have?

Reply to Vince604

what do u mean by extra features?

Sig of the week.

Reply to flamethrower205

well i was in BestBuy and they had a bunch of monitors hooked up and i was looking at the viewsonic it was a VA series 17.4 inch..and not sure if it was hooked up through DVI..im sure there was a spliter, but i wasn't happy with quality of the picture.. maybe the VG series is better!!

Reply to Rob423

the LCD's you see at stores are not indicitave of what the display will look like when hooked up to a PC. Firstly, they are almost never run at native res, use analog, and use a splitter which really degrades image quality.

Sig of the week.

Reply to flamethrower205

Features as in: Remote control, attachable speakers, HDTV

Reply to Vince604

Ah, well the VP230mb has speakers, but that's about it. You can get a converter so u can hook into TV if you want.

hey guys, If someone was giving you a pick between the Samsung 170T or the VG171...which would you guys Pick..

Once you go AMD, You never Go back!!

Reply to Rob423

170T definetly. VG171 has 40 ms response time vs. 25ms on the 170T, and VG171 is analog only. Also viewing angles are better on 170T.

Reply to profjo00

you should be. Wait, is UPS shipping it?

Sig of the week.

Reply to flamethrower205

hmm okay now you really got my mind thinking. Is it better having a seperate TV and seperate LCD panel or would it be worthwhile having a 2 in one?

Reply to Vince604

Ok, NOW... you've chosen the 170t...now if someone gave you a choice between the 170t or the VG181..Kinda disreguard the larger size...What would be the better performer...

How would life be if there were no Computer's? That would Suck!!

Reply to Rob423

Still the 170T- higher contrast, and it looks better:)
