E6700 vs D 960 - Odd RAID results

I have just completed my new E6700 system. Ran some basic benchmarking with PC Wizard.

E6700 - 29,523 Mips

D 960 - 19,970 Mips

E6700 - Multithreaded Tasks 3.92 secs

D 960 - Multithreaded Tasks 7.35 secs

Quite dramatic improvements for less than 6 months between their launches.

I did have some strange results though. The results of my RAID were completely different. Some were worse, some were better. I'm not sure what to make of it. Can anyone comment... see below:

D 960 results:

E6700 Results:

I don't know whether to be disappointed, concerned, or what.

Any advice received gratefully.

Did you build a whole new E6700 system, or just swap out your 960?

If you built a seperate system, then your results are probably due to your new Mobo's RAID controller, not the CPU. This is assuming identical drives for each system.

It's the same drives, but new MoBo and E6700. Changing from the ICH7R to the ICH8R.

Do I look at the changed results positively?

I'm a bit disappointed to see the buffered results go down dramatically, and puzzled to see the other results increase.

This is probably just due to your new Mobo manufacturers RAID implementation. I imagine it should be addressed in a future BIOS/Chipset Driver update. You might want to contact you Mobo manufacturer, maybe there's a setting that needs changed, or at least it will let them know that someone noticed - and they should fix it.

Oh, how about posting your exact make/model of your motherboard. Maybe another viewer has this one and has similar experiences, or perhaps a workaround.

MoBo is ASUS P5B Deluxe/Wi-Fi AP.

I think asking ASUS is a good idea. Could very well be something wrong that could be fixed with a BIOS upgrade. Otherwise, the ICH8R has issues that the ICH7R did not.

Thanks.
