Ok, I've benn an Nvida fan finse the GF2 came out.. briefly flirted with the original Radeon, but had too many driver probs & glitches in games.. so now I am lookin at puting togather a new comp. & I can't believe how much cheaper the ATI cards are now.. anyway.. my question(s) is(are)...
A: I am looking at getting an Nforce MB (MSI K8n Neo to be specific) and was wondering if there would be any conflicts or known issues with ati cards/drivers on an nvidia based MB, and B: (I feel really stupid for asking, but..) what is the differance between the x800 & x1600.. I thought it was agp vs PCIx but I've seen a PCIx x800.. (these are the 2 cards I'm looking at, btw) so.. advise??
thanx in advance =)

no you can use a ati card on a nforce motherboard. No problems. There is no Corporate sabotage... that im aware of yet.. as for the x800 and x1600. they are 2 different generations. the x300,x600,x800,x850 are one generation and hte x1300,x1600,x1800,x1900 are another. Performance wise, a x1300 will beat x300, x1600 will be x600 x1800 will beat x800 and x1900 is the best card out there currently (the x1900xtx that is). Other than that i'm not sure. the card with the 1 in front of it means its the successor of hte card without the 1. thats all.
Using ATI cards on Nvidia mobo, and vice versa is fine. The only time you'll run into problems is trying to run crossfire on a Nvidia mobo or sli on a ATI mobo. That being said, the X800 is a generation older than the x1600, but in most cases will eat the x1600 for lunch. X800= last gen. high end, and x1600=new gen midrange card. Both are avialable in AGP and PCI-EX.
