I have a 4-PC home network where I can access the internet, share
files, and print from any machine including an occassional #5 which is
my notebook. I should say I used to be able to do all this, but
can't print anymore! What's changed? OK, well I finally got around
to getting a wireless router to go with my notebook. I installed the
router and after a few hiccups, I can see all active machines on the
LAN and I can access the net from any of them.
The new/old router(s) are LinkSys Wireless WRT54G and the older
BEFSR41, and the one I'm currently concerned with is the wireless
router and how I can get it to interface with my HP JetDirect Print
Server. No matter what I try with regard to "discovering" the
JetDirect unit... it never shows up. I use Zone Alarm and it is
showing two networks... and one set of numbers does not look familiar.
I'm really not any sort of expert on ZA, so perhaps someone can tell
me if there is a good, layman's terms tutorial on how to set up things
like a JetDirect and have ZA allow it. At one point there seemed to
be two (2) active networks in the setup windows and I'd assume that
one of these should be removed, but when I try to remove it I'm told I
can't remove an active network. There must be a way to remove the
extra network, right? I looked again on this machine and it's only
showing one. Go figure.
At this point, I'm not even sure if ZA or the Router is allowing me to
send email out... or print to either of my two printers but I can see
all the shared files/folders from any other machine. I have
hard-reset the router so it's not that.
So if some kind soul would like to give me a hand, it would be greatly
appreciated.
