Is the E6600 going to decrease in price anytime soon - say down to $300? I know this is a pretty stupid question but, do you think its going to go down alot in price in the next two weeks?

I want to know because I'm going to order off a E6300 soon. It will be a dissapointment if the E6600 comes into my buget shortly after.

So you think I should I just wait 1 or 2 weeks? All the other online shops will compete quickly, right?

Look at the post above you. I think he makes a good point.

The low-price segment is the e6300s. I doubt the higher-end ones will decrese anytime soon. Slightly , maybe, due to supply pressures easing. But to the price range of the current e6300s ... unlikely.

Core 2 shortage eases, prices drop drastically!

Earlier this week the Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 sold as high as $459 but the supply shortages seem to be easing. Buy.com now offers the E6600 at $339 which is only $23 above list price and promises to ship in one to two weeks

I doubt it will go to $300 or below until Kentsfield arrives early next year.

$340 seems like a fantastic price for such performance! Over here in the UK E6600 are still around £250 ($450).

Being in an expensive country sucks.

Yeah, I'm in the Uk too. The best price I found is £233. If it were around £180 I would buy it right away. Oh snap. Do you think I should just go with the 6300 then?

If only i could find an OEM version of the E6600. Doesn't look like they exist. £221 is pretty good. Is it really worth it though?

I doubt the price will go down in the timeframe you asked (two weeks) since the supply is low right now and if it does go down any, it won't be to $300.

Since the 6300s are generally more available, I'm probably going to buy one of those. I'm not an adventurous gamer. I only really play Half life 2 (and in the future, UT2007 since I'll be modding it). Paying twice the price for something that I don't really need would be kind of stupid.

I know that things will move on, and my 6300 will get old and near useless. But I will still have that money for the future. I'll be able to buy something better than the 6600 in 1-2 years. Well, that's according to Moore's Law.

My system is the following:

+ E6300 Core 2 Duo *OEM*
+ Asus P5B (Socket 775)
+ Corsair 2GB DDR2 XMS2-6400C5
+ BFG 7900GT OC 256mb
+ Western Digital Raptor Sata 150GB 10kRPM 16MB Cache - Oem
+ Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro

Please comment on the stuff. If there is anything you would change, please say so.

I think the price of the E6300 is dropping a little already. I live in Canada and at a CanadaComputers, the price of the E6300 dropped from 266 to 249.00. Not much but its slowly dropping =). They just got a shipment of 20 or so E6300 so maybe ill just go down there and pick one up haha. I dont think its that necessary to get an E6600, because an E6300 can easily OC and achieve slimilar results. I'm hoping my new E6300 in a few weeks will last 4-5 years.

Since Intel is currently selling the E6600 for $316 each in lots of 1000 to system builder and retailers, you will not see a $300 E6600 at retail price for a while.

As exit2dos stated, you will need to wait until at least Kentsfield arrives, and it will not guarantee a price drop since Kentsfield will be priced above Conroe chips.

Either bite the bullet on the E6600 in the $340 - $360 price range or buy the cheaper E6400 if you want to build your PC soon.

By the time I want to upgrade again though (about 2 years from now), the money I saved could be used to buy a low end Kentsfield chip. If I were to just slap it on the motherboard I'm going to buy for this machine, I'll get pretty good value. It would mean I should get a 975x chipset instead though.

Sorry I had to... :)

This will not help you anyways since Newegg does not ship to UK.

You would have to pick a place there to help with the prices ;)

Regardless, he is a dumb f**king >.<
Just like the half of the country that voted for him right?

BTW your sentence doesn't even make sense. I think you're trying to use an adjective where you really want a noun...

No it makes perfect sense if you change >.< to the word it's meant to represent. IT makes "F**king" the adjective, therefore making it a perfect sentance :)

Yep, that would be the religious conservatives and dumb rednecks who don't know any better.

Despite the rhetoric, there is really not much separation between church and state.

P.S.

If you have heard George Carlin on this subject the F word is one of the most flexible words in the english Language.

In fact it can be used in ALL the basic formats needed to form a sentence...

So it could have been that too... :)

How about Greg Hakins' Homepage for some good usage of the "F Word"?

Here's a wave file describing the usage of the "F Word". It is 2 minutes and 29 seconds long and is quite educational. The voice is that of the late Jack Wagner, the former 'voice of Disneyland'.
