Here's my problem...It seems that when I'm not looking the fqdn of my workstations and member servers are changing from workstation1.xxx.yyy.com to workstastion1.yyy.com. I've been able to correct this by changing the tcpip parameters in the registry..Is there something I'm missing ??

Probably a suffix and/or wrong zone issue, hard to tell from here.

As Kevin mentioned, please post an ipconfig /all and if you can also add for
us, the AD DNS domain name and the zone name as its spelled in DNS?

Thanks

This machine's FQDN computer name is QHM01WS.faa.gov. However it has a
connection specific suffix of QHMOPS.FAA.GOV so if it can also register its
record in the DNS zone of that name and give it a FQ DNS name of
QHM01WS.QHMOPS.FAA.GOV, too. If you only want this machine to be know as
QHM01WS.QHMOPS.FAA.GOV you need to change the Primary DNS suffix to
QHMOPS.FAA.GOV. That's done on the Computer Name tab of the System Control
panel.

On a side note, this gateway situation you have going on is incorrect, with
a Netmask of 255.255.255.0 the only good gateway is 10.128.117.1 The rest
are out of range and won't be pingable because they are not in the same
subnet. If you want to use all these gateways the subnet mask will need to
be 255.255.0.0.

Thanks for the reply..

I've changed the primary DNS suffix in System
Properties>Computer Name Changes>More. Ive also joined
and rejoined the domain several times..

I am obviously hitting my head against the wrong wall !!

Here's what I did..

Snapshot of Configuration before changes:
Full Computer Name: QHM01WS.faa.gov.
Domain: qhmops.faa.gov
Primary DNS suffix of this computer: QHMOPS.FAA.GOV
Netbios name: QHM01WS

1. Left the qhmops.faa.gov domain joined the "test"
workgroup.

2. Restart....Logged on to the workstation...Full
computer name reads QHM01WS.FAA.GOV

3.Restart again...Full computer name reads: QHM01WS.
(Makes Sense)

4. REJOIN Domain: ("Change PRIMARY dns suffix when domain
name changes" is checked.)

5. After joining domain, prior to restart full computer
name reads: qhm01ws.qhmops.faa.gov.

6. Restart....Login..Full Computer name still reads
qhm01ws.qhmops.faa.gov. Hurray !

7. Restart again...Full Computer Name: qhm01ws.faa.gov
Oh-No !

I am going bonkers !

Don't go too bonkers cuz you'll need to go check your GPO here: Computer
Configuration, Administrative Templates, System, DNS Client.

As Kevin said, is it set in your Default Domain GPO?

Curious, why do you want to register this in a different zone than what the
AD domain zone is?

And curious, why all the gateways? The default gate for that mask is
10.128.117.1 and as Kevin mentioned, the only one that will work. Each
machine can only have one "default" gateway. It tells the machine the way
out or the way off the network. Kind of like sitting in a room with 3 doors.
You and I know which door to get to the outside world, but the machine
doesn't and needs to be specified. You could create static routes, but that
would be in the routers to control traffic, unless there's something basic
that I can't see in your design and that I'm missing here.

btw- Step #4, did you try unchecking that box and specify what suffix you
want? The system will register itself into that suffix.
