Direct3d acceleration is not available

i ran dxdiag and in the display tab it says direct 3d acceleration not available.the buttons to enable it don't appear.
plz tell me what to do

remove all installed video drivers and get a fresh video driver package from nvidia / ati.
Update / reinstall directx
