I was sure it was going to be mine.....untill i read it is US only......

Since Toms has German site to i would think europeans could get into the contest aswell.......

Since Toms is a international thing......it even surprises me more that it is US only......

I dont know percentages......but........isn't Toms overlooking a large group of faithfull readers. I know ive been since the beginning.........

I feel betrayed.........Tom!!...may I remind you where you started out!!!!

There are other things for me to be happy about.......not being able to join the contest is not going to change my live....it is not that big of a deal.....

But since the roots of pabsto lies in europe i am disappointed.........which will be forgotten as soon as I have closed the door behind me. But will leave a bitter taste......visiting toms....

This post was in no way intended to be a political one!.....nor personal for that matter...

Another fact.....this post dont concern american citizens.....it concerns the rest of the world......

EDIT 2 : Please only post if you are also disappointed in being left out of the contest.....
No political debate please......there are other fora for that..

EDIT 3: cut out this phrase..."Well .....guess my luck comes from .....not having to live in the US....phewww......thats worth a whole lot more..."......

Because it seems to effect people personally......whomes opinions I DO need to respect.....

It always works 2 ways people.......if you say you respect peoples opinions...than you bound to respect any opinion whether you like it or not.......only that way you'll gain respect.....

If you dont respect other peoples opinions.........dont count on getting any respect back....

I am a person ....when i state I respect every opinion....I actually do so.....wether you show me the same respect or not.....I treat others.....as I would want them to treat me
August 14, 2006 12:28:02 PM

No not right....but in this case.......Toms is denieing his roots.......BLEHH
August 14, 2006 12:29:36 PM

I'm sure THG have thought about that and due to other complications and what not it's not that easy to have a worldwide sweeptakes.

There is a german site........scratch that.....it is a german who started out in england..........

The fact he got big.....is thx to europeans wanting to read his sjit....and the fact he done a very good job writing articles in a way anyone could understand.......

So.......It is not a huge problem to make it world wide.......hell it could have even been split up in different builds regarding availability in different regions....

So unless the european gets a entry soon on the german site.......i cant help myself saying......FY to Tom
August 14, 2006 12:42:26 PM

Where you from anyways? Well I'll hope THG can change the sweeptakes and all fans worldwide can qualify to enter.

Then why does wikipedia state he started in the US ?

Anyway, being from Belgium, i agree with aristotelus. Visiting Tom's daily, we could at least have our own "European" contest.. shouldn't have to be 10K.. five would be enough..

I am from malaysia and currently in australia, i am a great fan of the toms. Hopefully we all international are qualified too.

Because the US has the tendency to claim to be the first in everything and loves claiming that big businesses all started there....???

If proof than states other wise...they just change it.....anyone who opposes...is the enemy.....

I do not know if you are aware of the large number of proud American Tom's readers and posters, but (I hope) some of us are offended by rude comments like, "Well .....guess my luck comes from .....not having to live in the US....phewww......thats worth a whole lot more..."
I am tired of ungreatful people like yourself who bore us with a fifth grade Micheal Moore view of the United States of America.
America may not have a perfect past and some people think that they are superior to America or other western countries, but it seems that they forget that thier own countries are also not flawless and end up becoming hypocrites in the process.

Jerkoffs like you who bash our country, the greatest country in the world dont deserve to be in the contest anyways and I'll be sure to send a note to Toms explaining my thoughts on this, including your FU.

Please make sure you do.......

And as a side note.....I hate the US government (not its citizens!!) for not knowing the concept of .....other countries......you dig....

It's alright, Europeans only know how to complain. Whine whine whine, don't invade these people, Socialism is so much better than everything else, while we're at it, why don't we go for perfection and turn communist?

I was neutral regarding Europe, but with this complaining all over the forums, its really starting to tick me off... So what, your not able to get the computer. Too bad that Falcon NW is an American Company... and so is most of the computer part manufacters (If you say anything about Taiwan, I'll just say that they are America's Bi%tch)

Either way, its a free computer. Just pretend you never saw it, and you can go on and live your merry lives. If I win it fine, I win it. If I don't, am I gonna go on the forums and complain to the world how stupid Tom's Hardware is... no...

Good day my foreign friends...

Just because this statement is not to your liking does not mean you know where it is based on.........and again......i hate the US government.....not its citizens..........for not knowing the concept of other countries......and thats a nutshell explenation.

I will however adress this in my initial post because it is not my intention to offense US citizens
August 14, 2006 2:05:16 PM

They could at least make it possible for canadian citizens, its not that far.
August 14, 2006 2:20:25 PM

I HAVE to jump in here......

First in regards to the Wikipedia comment...........

Wikipedia is NOT to be taken as ROCK SOLID information as it is EDITTED by many different people who may or may not have their facts straight. Therefore it is entirely possible that it could be WRONG. *gasps*

Second in regards to the US Government.........

In regards to the government and the citizens/residents, keep in mind that the United States and The United States of America are two ENTIRELY different things. The USA is the country; the United States represents the corporate entity that runs the country (the government). If any of you pay attention to the President's State of the Union address, the President is NEVER introduced as the "President of the USA". It is always the "President of the United States". Therefore based soley on that I can see how we as citizens or residents of this great country can be separated from the government in aristotelus' comments. I cannot defend or endorse the actions of the US government because I do not know all of the facts, therefore, IMO it is best to just keep my mouth shut on this forum as opposed to spreading IGNORANCE.

Lastly, aristotelus, just because your country was not included in the sweepstakes does not give you grounds to moan, complain and be just downright RUDE. If in fact the the founder of THG was german, couldn't you as a fellow countryman at least give him the benifit of the doubt that he took everything into consideration when setting up the sweepstakes? I am familiar with how sponsorships and sweepstakes work, and it is very possible that Falcon Northwest put a condition on the PC that it only be a USA based sweepstakes, which would be entirely out of THG's hands.

I live in and LOVE America. I personally believe that folks would be hard-pressed to find a better place to live. I am not saying that we are perfect, I am just saying that this Land is the best. IMO.

i'm not offended by your post. I come to expect much this sort of attitude from much of Europe, especially in the last decade.

However...this statement makes zero sense whatsoever. I'm chalking it up to a language issue, but what the hell does "knowing the concept of other countries" supposed to mean?

Do you honestly believe the US government doesn't understand that there are other countries in the world?

Perhaps we should stop sending out the half a trillion dollars in aid every year to the countries we don't know exist.

Tell you what...next time there is a Tsunami, you guys pay for the cleanup. While you're at it, you send billions in aid to Africa. And next time someone like the Soviets decide they want your country, you handle it by yourself...because we don't understand the concept of other countries here.

THG....had head quarters in germany to......so the consideration bit is nonsens to.......

A international company can always obtain local distribution in these matters.......its more a question of.....would you want to....

So....who is being rude here.....

This is my last reply regarding this........to any of you americans taking this personally....(wonder if you would treat a fellow american the same who share my opinion.....and there are many i actually know that do.....)

This concerns all other countries that exist outside the US......

and that be the end of it.

This post is voicing the disappointed off people who got left out....

what about us here in CANADA???we live right next door to the states and we can not enter the contest.I also feel somewhat betrayed because i am a faithful THG reader and i do sometimes supply advice to other members.but i think the point is that toms hardware is read all over the world and if there is going to be a contest it should be open to everyone.anything else is discriminatory.but seriously,i'm not overly concerned about it,just pointing out a serious oversite on THG side.you all have a good day now you hear.and goodluck to all contest entries.

The US has lower tax rates, lower unemployment, lower prices for goods, and doesn't give away the farm by capitulating to terrorists. I'd say that the US is by far better than any of the European countries. England isn't half bad though. They are a stand up lot.

It's probably limited to the US because the sponsor is a US company and that's the way they wanted it. Or maybe it's due to the handling of taxes on the prize. Either way it's probably not TH's "fault" that you can't enter in Europe.

I'm in California and if I won I'd have to pay both Federal and State income taxes on the prize which make it no prize! It's a nice computer but not worth my shelling out $3,500 for it.

Almost all statements where reasoning towards why it is felt that way....

as THG is also situated in germany....it would have been very easy to come up with different setup which can be delivered within international regulations.

To be honest, threads like this are irritating.

Some company tries to give free stuff away to make people happy, and people start complaining.

Get a life people!

The company wanted to do something nice, they wanted to make it easy, so they just did something. I get the feeling you would be perfectly happy, if there was no contest at all, in which case you still have the same eligibility as this one. Zero.

If something nice comes your way, count it as a blessing. If it doesn't, don't count it as a curse.

Enjoy.

It doesn't tick me off...I just don't understand it. The statement "no concept of other countries" would mean that the US Government doesn't know there are other countries in the world. That's a ridiculous statement. Just considering the ungodly amount of foreign aid, alone, that we give out per year, around the globe, we obviously have knowledge that there are other countries.

So my assumption is there is a breakdown due to the language, which is understandable. I can't express myself very well, if at all, in any other language than English, so I don't expect a foreign speaker to do it perfectly.

If it isn't a language breakdown, then it's a ridiculous statement.

Exactly, if it was given away to another country then no one could be forced to pay taxes on it. Therefore, either Tom's or Falcon would have to pick up the tax on $10,000. These tax laws are the same here in the US if you were to win the lottery or a car.

Nonsens, i have the right to speak my thoughts whether people will like it or not...........

Since when are we not the only country that has the right of free speach?
(joking).

Also Mr Aristotelus,
You have not responded to any comment made that defets your rant. This makes your post less meaningfull.

Here were the statements made that you need to reply to.
1.) Falcon NW is an American Company and as the supplier of the computer, most likely will only allow it to be given to people in the US.
Falcon wants to make money. They want to give the computer away to someone that will show it off to people who can buy one too. Why would Falcon send a computer off to Asia where the people who like it cant buy another one???

2.) Why do you assume that Tom has not tried to make this contest a global one? I bet Tom doesnt like your assumptions.

3.) Why would you complain about a contest? Tom has opened this site up for all around the world to talk. I see 100 contests a day here and there, and I bet you do to. Why should every contest be availilble to everyone in the world? That seems like a stupid thing to request. Just go to Dell and fill out one of their 2,495 running contests instead.

And as for all this america bashing / america flag wavers arguement... that really should be avoided here. Most the posts have shown to be cookie cutter responces for "I hate America..." which doesnt argue very well, just makes people mad.

Ill just say that the us problem is not its government its the people in the government that are the problem. We Americans a too preoccupied with greed to make any sensible decisions.

Just one example of how greedy people in our gov. are greedy, congressmen and women can use information obtained through their job (such as nicely asking their friend in the FDA if a drug is going to be approved or not) and then buy or sell stock according to this info and it is 100% legal.

This is called insider trading and is illegal for everyone else, it's what happened to Martha Stewart, but our congress passed a law saying its not illegal for them to do this.

One more thing according to the FDA the only thing that can cure prevent or treat a disease is an FDA approved drug. So if a doctor was to claim that scurvy (which is nothing but a vitamin c deficiency) could be cured by taking vitamin c and eating citrus fruit (which it can be) he gets thrown in jail. An American doctor was actually thrown in jail for curing Brest cancer with non prescription drugs. How anal is that!?

<sarcasm>see how awesome our county is now!</sarcasm>

America is great not too many other places I would want to live, but Im no fool we got some bodies in our back yard as well as some skeletons in the closet.

The US has lower tax rates, lower unemployment, lower prices for goods, and doesn't give away the farm by capitulating to terrorists. I'd say that the US is by far better than any of the European countries. England isn't half bad though. They are a stand up lot.

OOps. This wasn't meant to be a reply to MrsBytch. That post was just the last one in the page, so I clicked the "Reply" button from that post. My bad.

You are right, the US has lower taxes, lower unemployment and a lower price for goods but that doesn't count for all European countries. The Netherlands, as well as Germany, have lower unemployment than the US, but we pay a really outstanding high amount of taxes: for a simple graphics card we already pay 19% of 'BTW' (taxes over the added value). That's just not done. Even for food and such we have to pay 6% of taxes.

I live in the Netherlands and I must say: I don't like the governement we have here. I guess you all heard of our 'Harry Potter' Prime Minister  And yes, thát makes me ashamed of the Netherlands.

I must also say: I'd love to live in the USA. It was and is my dream to visit the USA once because I really like what I see (the cities, the countryside, eveything). I think it would be great to study a year in the USA, because it's só different than our dull country.

But I think this, "doesn't give away the farm by capitulating to terrorists", is rubbish comment. This doesn't add ANYTHING to the topic. In Europe, we've had 3 major terrorist attacks in the last few years, while America has had them in the past too.
