I am tired of refilling Ink carts for my inkjet printer. and having to do
head cleanings due to infrequent use.

I am no longer doing photo work so don't need the ultimate color print, As I
may do one or two once in a while, consequently I think it's time to switch
to a Color Laser printer.

Have used Inkjets since they were first sold and am quite knowledgable about
them But know very little about Laser printers.
a Few questions to get me started,

Is there a newsgroup covering Lasers or am I on the right one now?
I am retired and on a limited budget so price is important, I like HP
products but find their prices a bit high.
Future shop have this Minolta/Konica 2400W on sale for $349.00Cdn which is
marked down from $600.00 Cdn!!

Good price , But is the printer a good machine? I see it has only 32 Megs of
memory not expanable! Is this sufficent?

How do photos done on glossy laser paper look? Not Inkjet paper

Anyone have this unit? Anyone here can give me pros and cons or other
alternate decent machines at a reasonable price?

Any and all comments welcomed and appreciated.

Thanking you all, Regards Rene Lamontagne

How much printing do you intend to do? On the cheap colour laser side
you may also wish to consider the following: Epson Aculaser C1100 Laser
TallyGenicom T8008 Xerox Phaser 6100DN. All of which are available
here for £199. Personally I would shy away from a printer with a W at
the end as this (generally) means it is a windows printer, which means
that computer does most of the work for it and you may struggle should
you decide to use it with a different operating system or via a network
or something.
With lasers, it is similar to inkjets - the less you pay for the machine
the more the consumables cost. You can get glossy paper for lasers and
they do a very good job of it, plus laser glossy paper is considerably
cheaper than inkjet glossy paper.

Thanks for the heads up Timothy,

Yes, on doing some googleing and further research I find it is a Windows
printer and uses the System CPU to do the work, Not Good.

Also the Toner carts are nearly double the cost of other brands, Bad

Max power consumption is 1100 watts!!! over double of other popular brands.

Well I don't know much about Color Laser printers but I guess I'm gonna
learn fast before I jump in, Back to Google and more research.

Thanking You, Rene Lamontagne

Truth is you don't know. You've never ever done refilling of carts. So
why should someone take your advice on this matter.
Let me clue you in...no one in their right mind would ever consider
taking your advice. You on the other hand, can never accept the fact
that you have nothing to offer regarding refilling or using after market
inks.
In that regard you come across as slightly off balance (to use a nice term).
You need to come to grips with these facts that are so self-evident.
There has to be more to life than posting in this ng.

There you go. How pathetic that the best answer you can come up with
when faced with truth is some stupid childish jibberish. You should be
ashamed of yourself and the garbage you constantly post in this ng.
You're no help to anyone.

Measekite forgot the part about head cleaning DUE TO INFREQUENT USE. Not
due to refilling. He sees what he wants to see and hears what he wants to
hear. Same old Measekite. I actually like the other Measekite better.

That's because I only drink the black ink.
Whereas he drinks all the colors.

I have a 2350en (9600x600) which produces very good (not excellent)
photo type prints on plain paper. I have not printed on laser glossy,
yet (you can't print on ink jet media). The toner when melted on the
paper is not dull and not glossy, it's sort of in between and so I've
heard some ppl say they don't like the way it looks on glossy because
the toner is a lot less glossy than the paper. I have made some
excellent 8.5x11 art type prints on plain paper suitable for framing,
but I don't think I'd be happy with using it for all my photos. In
fact, it is a big pain to trim a lot of prints to 4x6, 5x7 or
whatever.

BUT for an all-around excellent printer it is otherwise fantastic.
Quick, double-sided crisp color printouts. The only big drawback on
this particular line is the 4 color engine, it is very noisy when it
cycles each color and the black cart. I print infrequently, but if I
was to print any more I would seriously consider another type of laser
color printer that does not noisily cycle 4x for each page side. Not
sure if the 2400 is the same.

For photos I got a Canon i9900 which is superb.

Thanks Markeau, I think I'll do more research on various brands before I
decide, There are a few things that I am not likeing such as the high
current draw (means I would have to install another branch circuit and
receptacle near my computer,) also the cost of toner carts is a factor.

Consider cost per page not cost per consumable item, certainly a laser
toner costs more than an inkjet cartridge but it lasts a lot longer.

Each to their own, but I found the 2200 perfectly acceptable for
photographs .

It's a moot point right now, the sale ended yesterday and they are back to
$609.00 I Will look some more and watch for other brands, I still think the
photos will be OK for me and the cost per page will be acceptable also.

Thanks and Regards, Rene Lamontagne

Before you buy ANY printer, you should check into the price of the
consummables.

If you're considering the 2400w, I'd strongly recommend you also
consider the 2450. They may look the same on the outside, but there's
a big difference in terms of print quality. It may cost more, but it
comes with full toner cartridges, which almost offsets the higher
purchase price.
