Help me out here... I am about two years out of the loop and trying to catch up and order a new PSU? I am running an ABIT NF7-S, but I would like to make an upgrade I can take with me when I discard this old motherboard and move toward an pci-e and A64 system sometime next year. Is an ABIT nf7-s ATX12V 2.01 compliant?

It's the power supply. Basically you need an ATX 12v 2.01 and most after market psu are.

Here's some info about that compliant thing:

So will the older motherboards like the NF7-S work with the newer ATX12V 2.01 compliant PSUs? Like with the Antec TP 550W on sale now at newegg for $85 free shipping, for example?

I don't see why it wouldn't. It's a 20+4 meaning that is can work both old and new motherboards. Since you're motherboard has 20 pin power supply you can detach the 4 pin of the main power supply and should work with you board. It's a nice board and I'd say go for it.

Too late... I ordered a 450W Coolmax yesterday to put it into my friend's computer.... too bad, though, for I like to jump on upgrade opportunities... he would have been very happy with one of my old PSUs and i could have swapped them out... :(
