Getting EVERYthing?

I've been conjecturing as to whether it would be possible for a single
character to acquire every unique item in the game. It seems like it would
be possible, with some planning early in the game, though you could quickly
make it not possible by making a few wrong choices. For instance, you must
join the Thieve's and Mage's Guilds early on. Probably the Fighter's Guild
as well, though I've not seen too many items (if any) specific to Fighter's
Guild quests. You must also join the Imperial Cult, the Temple, and the
Legion, and do all their missions. After that, it gets tricky. I think the
house to choose would have to be Telvanni. There seem to be several unique
items that can only be gotten by working for the Telvanni. (I don't think
I've seen any items specific to the other houses, but I may be wrong.)
However, your ties with the Mage's Guild may complicate things, so you'll
have to play both of them concurrently to stay balanced and not piss either
group off too much. You should of course finish the Telvanni missions
first, as the final Mage's Guild quest would make that somewhat - difficult,
I'd think. The other difficult thing would be that there's several items
which you must be a vampire to acquire, so you'll need to get yourself
infected, get those items, and then get cured, and do all of this BEFORE
getting infected with and cured of Corprus, because it will prevent you from
being able to become a vampire. I can't think of any other limitations
off-hand, though there's so much about this game that I'm sure I don't know
about yet. I do seem to recall a couple of instances where you're given a
choice between one of several treasures, and you can only get one, so that
may be the only real hinderance...

One item that may cause a problem if you join the Fighters Guild and
take the track aiding the Thieves Guild is that you have to give up the
Bitter Cup to complete one of the quests. Plus if you create Bluebrand
don't you lose Goldbrand?

Not necessarily. I'm master of the Fighters Guild and still have the Bitter
Cup. Of course, this character never joined the Thieves Guild, because he
made the mistake of doing a certain Fighters Guild mission first, and now
they won't let him join. He's also screwed himself on several of the other
points as well. (Already cured of Corprus, can't do the Vampire thing, and
also already been given the last quest by Trebonius, so I doubt that the
Telvanni will like me enough to let me join at this point, though I haven't
joined either of the other houses yet, so you never know...)

You mean Eltonbrand? I remember seeing a trick to getting that on some
website. (Never heard of Bluebrand, though checking the CS, okay, it is the
same, katana_bluebrand_unique being the ID...) Anyhow, I'd classify this as
the same item, just upgraded. Just like the sword you create in Tribunal
doing Almalexia's quests. First, it's just a sword, and then it gets the
enchantment, still same item. Also, I'd obviously exclude any items that
you have to give up in order to complete a quest. (Though I suppose in many
cases you could go back later, kill the person you gave it to, and get it
back, but you'd have to do that AFTER everything else, as you'd probably get
kicked out of a lot of factions in the process...) I'm just wondering if
there are any items which are specifically mutually exclusive, in that
there's no way to get both without cheating. I have to go through all the
Redoran and Haalu missions to see if there's anything like that. (Telvanni
is probably still the best bet, though. I know there's several that you
can't get any other way.)
