dns registration is incorrect

Archived from groups: microsoft.public.win2000.dns (More info?)

On a window 2000 client machine when I run netdiag on it, I get the error
saying the DNS registration is incorrect on all DNS servers. The server is
running SBS2000. What do I need to do to resolve this?

Can we see the netdiag output? Can we also see some config info to better
come up with a diagnosis? Some helpful info, such as:

1. unedited ipconfig /all would be helpful.
2. Also, let us know what the zone name is in DNS and if updates are
enabled.

Only secure updates are allowed on the active directory zone. I also found
out that the ip address that was getting assigned was the same as another
machine. I got the ip changed on the other computer but this one still
gives me the incorrect dns registration.

Thanks for posting that. Your ipconfig looks good, and you don't have a
single label DNS domain name (a common issue).

Are you saying that 10.10.10.85 was being used on another machine and you
changed the other machine? Check DNS and physically look in the database for
10.10.10.85 and see if there are multiple or the wrong hostname associated
with this machine.
