because your printer is too old.

if you are using a USB cable for your printer connection you will need to use Lexmarks custom software for your device to work. it is a old printer I would download the Lexmark windows 7 drivers and install them in compatibility mode. if you have a network connection to the printer you just might have to refresh the IP address to make a printer connection
