Minolta Magicolor 2400W - resetting toner cartridges

In a moment of madness, I purchased a toner topup for my printer. Despite
the assurances of the company I bought it from it isn't fully compatible.

The chip in the cartridge thinks the cartridge is empty and has reduced the
print speed to 5ppm instead of 20 (black only). Now the company wants to
sell me a replacement chip at additional cost!!

Does anyone know how to reset or bypass the cartridge chip?
