Do you have a public IP address assigned to this server?
Do you have your ISP's DNS listed in TCP/IP properties?

Either of these can cause these errors, it is trying to register either PTR
or address records in the DNS server in the error. The DNS server in the
error is the Authoritative for either the PTR or Domain.
An ipconfig /all will tell me which it is doing and I can tell you what you
usually need to do to stop it.

Where is the ipconfig /all?

I've found just creating a reverse zone, in most cases, takes care of 40961
errors.

That's true, in most cases, did you see the DNS it is trying to connect to?
(DNS/extns1.nuvox.net.)
It's not a blackhole server, so it is hard to say if that is the fix, if as
he says he doesn't have a public address assigned to it.
XP will log these to, it could even be a PPOE connection. But getting an
ipconfig /all could help resolve this, with a little more info on the
system.

True, an ipconfig will help. Yes, the extns1.nuvox.net server is an external
and highly suggests it's in the server's IP properties. The security
negotiation, I believe, is trying to query that server for the reverse entry
of this machine and it's coming up blank.

Hope he posts the ipconfig /all.
