My Ti4200 (AGP) has just S**t itself and I need to replace it will something just as good if not better otherwise my kids will drive me insane.
Is there a site where I can do comparisons between old video cards and the newer video cards so I know what to buy.
Tom's hardware site is great but I can't seem to link the newer cards with the ti4200 to make the comparisons.
Obviously any of the newer cards "should" be better than my Ti4200 but I'm not totally sure about that.
Recently (a couple of years) I brought a ATI powercolor Radeon 9800pro for another computer I have thinking it would bliz the ti4200 and I was very surprised that my old ti4200 keep up with very well.
I would probably buy off ebay (I'm addicted) so second hand cards don't bother me.
Any suggestions please
I aslo appoligise in advance if this seems like a dumb topic

There's a reason for that.

Any new video card is light years ahead of it. If you go with a GeForce 6 series or 7 series they will blow away the Ti4200. I had a Ti4200 in my old computer and there's no way it could keep up with my 7900GT(s) now. Any ATI card from the X#### (example X800XL or X1800XT) series on up will blow it away too. Just let us know a price range and we will recommend a card that blows away the Ti 4200.

Try something from here:

If those are too much, try anything from the 6600 series on up here:

I am assuming you are only looking for AGP.

Price??? Cheaper the better
If any of those cards you've listed will be better than my ti4200 I'll go with a cheap one, however I'm not totally a scrouge, I happy to part with $150 to $200. My ti4200 cost me about $450 back in it's hey day, and I'm sure as hell I don't want to spend that kind of money on a card again.

Remember I'm after a AGP card

If you're replacing a ti4200, I have two by the way, I wouldn't go hog wild on a replacement. You didn't mention any of the other specs, but probably an older computer. The newer cards, even the older 6800's aren't going to benefit much from a lowly 2.4 p4 or less. I had a ti4200, replaced it with a 6800gt, and the framerates were only in the low 200's from what I can remember. What you can SEE, as far as eyecandy did improve a little, but nvidia came out with drivers a while back that gave the ti4200 a "boost" so to speak. I'd go with one of the cheaper cards, unless you are going to make big improvements on the rest. Try to find something with at least 12 pixel pipelines.

Yes, for the most part curent video cards will be faster then the 4200. The thing to remember is that card is from a different era. If you were to test the 4200 and a 9800 with the same render path (level of DX), the 9800 should be faster. If it isn't, there is something else holding your system back, perhaps the ram or CPU. From what I've seen, the 4200 is about equal with a 9600pro/5700. I'm not 100% sure what that is in the very current lineups, somewhere around an x700/6600

Remember that some of the newer cards need their own power which was not the case with the Ti4200. This means that your power supply needs to support this.
