With the exception of a channel or two of AvantGo, so far I've barely
used my PPC for 'internet' operations. So I'm only now getting around
to doing something that I expect is everyday stuff to many users.

Say I have my PPC in its cradle, and I'm using MSIE6 on my PC to view
a specific web page. What steps (on PC and PPC) do I take to be able
to download the page (and optionally a level of its links) so that I
can find and browse it later on my PPC in PIE please?

Note that I don't have any 'Connections' or 'Network' set up, nor do I
want any at this stage; I just use ActiveSync's Pass Through facility.

If you have your sync options set properly, you can get your desktop
IE to do all the work, that is download all of the sites that you wish
to view offline. Just add the page you want as a Favorite, then go
into the properties of that Favourite and select to make it available
offline. You will see some new options tabs appear. Play with that. On
the handheld, go into Options, and go into the sync settings for
Favourites, and under the Customize tab, you will find an option to
sync offline content.

Or you could get iSilo ;-)

You can also do it by building an Avantgo custom page which is my
preference since the stored result is customizable.

For example, I normally use no images, no offsite links and two levels deep.

Thanks both. I'll try those alternatives, but I think I'd prefer the
AG route. Beverly, could you give me a little more detail on how to do
that please. Just the first few specific steps, and then I expect it
will become clear!

login to avantgo on your pc and edit your "channels"

Been a while since I have done it, but, think it's simply select add
custom channel, then you have the ability to set the download parameters
for that site.

Avantgo's not accessable as I write this.

Terry, I use Sunnysoft's World off-line software.

It allows you to upload WebPages (including linked pages, images) for
offline reading on your PPC.

Check it out at:

Thanks. But so far I can't say I'm having any success with that. In
fact I'm darned if I can make head nor tail of AvantGo's interface!

On my PC I went to AG site and added a couple of 'channels', using Add
Channel. They were reported as updated correctly. I scheduled both for
every day at 11:00 am. That was around 10:50. With apparently nothing
except my existing BBC News still accessible by 11:05, I went to My
Channels, where I see:
"Channel Capacity
Account Utilization: 0 k / 2000 k
Upgrade your account to 8MB today!
Synced Subscriptions
You already have the subscriptions listed below on your device.
BBC News"

Can someone advise how I interpret that please? What is a 'Synced
Subscription' and how does it differ from a 'Channel'?

I have been assuming there could be several channels within my single
(free) subscription, up to a total of 2,000K. But the above seems to
treat 'BBC News' as a 'subscription'. And none of the extra channels
I've just added are mentioned.

If I now go to 'Manage your subscriptions, it reinforces the info
under My Channels with:
"You already have the subscriptions listed below on your device.
Channel Name Size Max
BBC News 224k *
* this channel is not included in account size calculations"

Again, it doesn't describe BBC News as a 'channel', but a
'subscription'. And why isn't it included in the 2000K? Do I get one
free, or what?

As I implied in my original post, I'm sure this will turn out to be
embarrassingly simple, once someone can spell out the exact steps to
follow please.

Thanks Beverly. That works fine. But did you have any success with a
*scheduled* channel?
