I click on the add and remove progams and nothing happens ....... why??

I don't know. Run the System File Checker to make sure that all core
files are ok. This is done with
SFC /scannow
via Start > Run.
If this does not help, try a repair reinstallation: "How to Perform an
In-Place Upgrade (Reinstallation) of Windows XP"
(http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=315341).
