Booty Island cannon question (spoiler)

Hmm, I'm trying to get into the quarry. I finally gave
up and checked the readme, which says to fire the
cannon at the quarry (no wonder I didn't think of
it!). But, all I can do with the cannon is move it.
I cannot FIRE it. I have jiggled it all over to line
it up with the powder kegs, have turned on "tfh" to
scan for a button that isn't obvious and generally
gotten very frustrated. How do I fire the
cannon!?!?

Alas, yes, I have tried holding a torch, holding nothing, attacking
it while holding a torch (drops the torch, BTW, and does hands).

A wild stab in the dark as I've not played this mod but have you tried
activating it while holding a torch (litteraly "fire" it, as cannon
actually work)? Just a thought, as I believe this is the same guy who
made Havish where you ignite that barrel in the warehouse the same way.

Hmmmmm, in that case I've no idea, unless you have to find a specific
item to enable you to fire the cannon (tinderbox or similar perhaps?)
before it will work. You could always have a poke about in the CS and
see what the script attached to the cannon says I s'pose.

I must admit its this sort of thing that put me off this guy's other
mods, Haldenshore & Havish. Whilst they're certainly very high quality
mods (and boy, is trying to teach myself TESCS ever making me appreciate
the amount of work that goes into these things!), there's too much of
the old "adventure game" style of use-the-foo-to-open-the-bar for my
tastes.

Thanks. Hmmm, I did check the readme file, but somehow
missed this. And, sigh, it is not something one is ever
likely to think of trying in a game on one's own. But then,
I wouldn't fire a hunk of iron at a powder keg hoping to
ignite it, either.

For anyone reading this exchange, most of JOG's
quests are interesting and more or less straightforwards
(although I disklike all the timed quests, and think
they are contrary to MW philosophy).

Here's and extract from the Readme file :

-Misc hints:

* Don't attack non-hostile folk. (unless there's a reason to do so.)
* The wise adventurer has some cure/resist paralysis potions in his
backpack.
* To fire a cannon, activate it while sneaking.
* Although they're just decoration, you CAN use the telescopes.
* Read journal-entries, read messageboxes, read dialogue, read the
responses.
* Sometimes YOUR brain is a lot more useful than your PC's muscle.
* There are two ways to finish the main-quest. You'll notice when
you have to decide which path to follow...
* When you're stuck, try to talk to the questgiver or other NPCs that
were helpful earlier (again: Read the Journal...)

This should help

Certainly the first Thieves' Guild quest in Havish (extract contraband
and burn down warehouse) drove me crazy as I ended up having to use
telekinesis to reach the flammable object you have to burn to destroy
the warehouse and never did get the loot.

This was on about the 6th or 7th attempt.
