I'm building a AM2 gaming pc that is hovering in the $800-100 range. Here is what I got so far...

ASUS M2N32-SLI Deluxe Wireless Edition
Aspire X-Dreamer Case
Silverstone 500w PSU

Heres what I still need:
DDR2 800 Memory
Athlon X2 4600
Seagate 320GB Hard Drive
Radeon X1800XT
Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Music

I'm unsure of the memory to get and kinda unsure of the video card.

Opinions?

I believe Corsair, as OCZ is not good for this asus board. The vid card is a fine choice assuming it isn't more than 200. The 1900xt is slightly more but is give and take in frames and benches over the 1800xt. 7900gt is still better and prices have come down recently so keep your eyes open if you want to step it up a bit. The 1900xtx seels for just under 300 some places and is even better still, but i'm guessing that could be 100 too much for your budget

X1800XT for 200 bones

Corsair XMS2 DDR2-800 CAS4- $251 for the RAM
No reason to get anything more than 3800+ right now, get a 65nm CPU in December
Hard drive is fine
Scale down the video card to like a 7600GT and pick up a DX10 card in December
Sound cards are fine, but unless you a music buff you don't really need one

Acutally- that begs a question. Why the hell did you buy a $230 motherboard with SLI to use an ATI card?

The mobo was $200 and I wanted the NForce 590 chipset and the other little features it has.

EDIT: I probobly wont overclock and if I would it wouldnt be much(maybe 100-150mhz).

What is is about the NForce 590 chipset you need/want?

Seems strange to build a "cheap" PC with the most expensive chipset. Sure the hype is up about the 590 chipset being the best, however that's for gamers that doesn't care much about the price. The 570 can do mostly the same and if you need two graphics cards sometime the ATI Crossfire 3200 (with the new southbridge) will do just as good in most systems.

I dunno, I guess have the enjoyment of owning something top of the line got to me and the reviews of the motherboard.

Regardless of the fact, I'm not sure how much the DX10 cards will cost when released or the new AMD chips.

Yeah I know, I'll probobly get the cpu dead last and maybe the 65mm chips will be out by then. As for the video card the prices for the DX10 cards will be high. :(

For an Asus mobo i,d get corsair, it,s really good ram and plus asus mobo are really picky when it comes to ram.

But I agree with some of the other that posted that the mobo is the most expensive mobo for an AM2 socket and yet you want a cheap build a 570 would have given you the same peformance unless you'd be using SLI. But It a really great board can't say anything other than that on the board.

for all the other parts they should do fine. I would recommend (if the budget allows getting the X2 5000+) (after it drops in price which it should once more stores start getting them in.) the peformance is alot better then the X2 4600 and not that much more. Newegg have them in stock but they are $600 but it should drop to $350

The 5000 is pricy even at $350 granted it runs at 2.6ghz. I'll see, who knows.
I am heavily considering 2GB of ram since Windows Vista will eat ran like crazy.

Thanks. :)

Yes I agree on the ram, I just orderd an extra 2 GB which will make it 3GB. I used to have 2GB but to 1Gb out to put into my sisters system and eversince my system is really slow especially when play BF2. My system is really really slow.
