DNS Configured or Not

My one DNS server which I did not set up shows both the forward and reverse
lookup zones, but when you select just the server it states that it is not
configured.

I was wondering if I should go ahead and configure this DNS server as normal
or is there a problem with this server? Could someone give me some advice
here as this might be part of my problem with my exchange server and setting
up a SMTP connector properly.

Thanks,

If you get this message, go ahead and run through the wizard, skipping the
step to create a new zone. Make sure there is no "." Forward Lookup zone, if
there is, delete it. Then refresh the console to enable root hints, you can
optionally configure a forwarder for your DNS. A recommended forwarder might
be your ISP's DNS servers or your router, if your router is capable of being
a DNS proxy service.
There may be a problem for mail servers using a Win2k3 DNS server, if the
Win2k3 DNS server is behind a firewall that blocks UDP packets over 512
bytes.
If the latter is true, you need to increase the maximum UDP packet size on
the firewall to the MTU of the internet link, or disable EDNS on the DNS
server.
