Hello I am new,

I need help with my build (will buy)

Overal I am concerned with Fastest 3D Render, good motherboard + Chipset and really really low FAN/Cooler noise. I live in a 25-30º Celcius country.

Core 2 Duo E6600 @ 2.40GHz (dont like overclocking, best price for me, plan to upgrade to extreeme when the prices drop at the end of the year)

Cooler: Can I just stick to Intel's core2 default cooler?

Intel D975XBX or Asus P5WDH Deluxe ? (Suggestions please)

DDR2 667MHz Dual 2GB Kingston (2x 1gb so I can buy another one in the future and have 4gb). 667 would be the minimum I should get right? Then in the future I can up to something higher. (I heard there are Dual 4GB already? (2x 2gb).

Western Digital 250GB SATA2 with 16MB Buffer (Does it really matter if I get a RAPTOR? Will increase THAT much?

Video Card: No idea what to choose, help. *I will not use to play games, only work with Maya 3D Animations and Photoshop/Pos Prod..*

Desktop and Power Suply:
Can I keep my actual Case/ATX and my Power Supply? Or Core2 requires different cables @ power supply? (mine is 400watts)

I own this right now:
P4 Prescott 3.0GHz (478)
2MB Dual Kingston 400Mhz (4x 512)
GeForce 6800 GT 256Mb AGP
Asus P4S800 Deluxe
Thermaltake 400Watts or 450w (dont remember right now lol)

Thats all! Hope I supplied all the info necessary :) Thanks!

If you don,t play games the Video card to get is the:
Quadro series from Nvidia or
FireGL from ATI
couldn,t tell you with model is the best price / peformance. I play games so i,m not that interested in these cards.

I would replace the cooler with a zalman 9500 since you live in a warm country. And this fan with artic silver 5 will really lower your temps.

On the board: i haven't looked into these different boards but I will say that I would go with the asus regardless, they make really good boards and have a good layout.

On the ram stick with 2x 1GB the 2X 2GB is really expencive. But I would recommend getting the DDR2 800.

But you will need to get a new Power supply if it's 400W for sure and if it is 450W :? then it would really depend on how much you would be spending on your video card. if it's more then $300 then yes for sure.

Good luck with the new build...a lot of us it seems are in the middle of a new build. I am uprading from a nforce2 mobo...athlon 2500...1gig mushkin...maxtor 200gig and radeon 9800...

To an e6600...gigabyte ds3...2gig ocz 6400...msi 7900gt...seagate 7200.10 320...coolermaster chasis...ultra x-connect 500watt...viewsonic 2025....aquagate r120 water cooler.

It sounds almost like yours......except I plan to use mine for gaming so the focus is a little different....but the hardware may be the same.

your system:

MOBO.....either is a good choice....many others will tell you this one or that is better...but remember they are usually overclocking. I bought mine because it rated well and happened to be in stock(cheesy but there is little in the pipeline...and my patience is short)

CPU=e6600......you picked a winner (e6600 is my choice...buddy of mine bought the e6300 because everyone said it will overclock easily...he already regrets it because i am getting the e6600. Larger cache may help you.

Ram=2 gigs....good start....4 will probably be better because yours apps will take advantage of them. Try to find a slower ram say a 4200,5400...with better timings. You may be able to buy the 4 gig with the price difference. The difference is small between timings and mhz.

Video card= Well.....you just need a good renderer...so most pci-e cards will work for you. i bought my 7900gt for 259...with a 30$rebate =219 which i thought was tremendous....if you can get anything like this....Games or not....you will be pleased...try to find a good 7600 or 7800 with the appropriate outputs for your monitor.

if your case is quiet now then keep it.....stock cooler is more than suficient.

Case+power= If you like your case then hang on to it. 400watts was the bare minumum for mid range cpu's and gpu's...with 500-600 watts for higher systems .....and 700-1000wats for ultra highend and quad graphis systems. with the e6600 only running at 2.4 gigz and a minumum of peripherals...you should be fine....If you go with a high end GPU be prepared to bump up to a 500-600watt if you start having problems.

As a side note...about your not overclocking....I have overclocked very little over the past 15 years of sytem building...relying on the idea that a stable system is a happy system. These new chips are engineered like a cross between a Lexus and a skyline. Rock solid underated performance. instead of buying that e6800 later.....your e6600 only needs a small baby step to be at the same speed with a 10-15% overclock...which is trivial.

Many sites have there e6600's are running rock solid at 4.0gigz...so 2.93 should be a walk in the park....they also have e6300's running at 2.90 as well on air cooling.....so anything is possible....

sorry for the ramble.....I get the rest of my parts thursday.....so wahoo...i willpost pics and stats as i get them.

good luck to you :D    :p

Umm... it may be kind of late for this suggestion, but have you thought of Xeons or Opertrons (Socket F)? Just food for thought because they are INSANE with Maya, I know exactly what you're working with because I have Maya 7 and I can tell you that Xeons and Opertrons PWN Core 2 Duos with heavy multi-tasking.
