New Seagate 320GB HD only shows as 127GB

the title says it all, i got a new seagate 320GB HD

i pretty sure its something simple but i dont know how to do it

i have XP Pro SP2

Are you shore you got the right drive from the store. It could have been in the wrong package, so check for labeling on the drive.

no its 320GB, and ya i just fixed the problem after a little more searching around.

had to go into Control Panel --> Admin Tools --> Computer Management -->Storage --> Disk Management. Then i deleted the partition that was the 127GB (there was a ~200GB portion unformated) and am now formatting the entire thing and its working fine.

You found the problem, the reason is that your copy of XP is pre SP1.. regular XP does not recognize drives bigger than 127.. I had the same problem.. once you upgrade to SP1 or above you can follow the steps you took to free up the rest of the drive.
